Erythromycin
I need some advice for those who have had experience with Erythromycin for DGE. Mia was put on this drug back in July when she was vomiting so much. It was sort of a "guess" that she had DGE as she would vomit up her food several hours after eating. It's now been 5 months and her GI doc said that this drug often loses effectiveness after 3-4 months. I have not seen any change to know if it's working or not. The biggest thing that stopped Mia's vomiting was putting her on Peptamen JR and increasing her Prevacid dose. So I really don't know if the Erythromycin ever worked at all or not. I'm wondering if I should do a trial for a few days without and see what happens. I just don't know. She's doing good now, so I don't want to rock the boat, but at the same time, I hate that she's on a drug that could potentially be doing nothing. Advice??

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
That Peptamen is good stuff I'll tell ya...LOL Costly, but good stuff. Did you start the Erythromycin at the same time as the Peptamen?? The Pep, is pretty broken down and may be able to pass with out the help of the EES (erythormycin).

We were successful at weaning Jedd completely off of his EES for good. We did it little bits at a time. I would cut a morning dose first and work towards the end of the day dose being cut last. It always seems that motility slows down as the evening draws near.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I never used it so the only thing I have to add is that if things are going well, you might consider leaving her be until after Christmas. Seems like the wheels fall off the bus around the holidays as it is, might not be a bad idea to keep things as stable as possible till then. Once the holidays are over, give it a shot. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the responses. After a rough 2 weeks with illness and ear infection, we are staying on EES for awhile. Great idea on the weaning....I think when we're ready we'll try that.
