Emily update, enough?
well our journey with reflux is still on going... Emily is close to being 3 and reflux is still an elephant in the room. After MUCH consideration (and well a horrible misunderstanding at the other office), I switched her GI.

the new Dr. knew right away something wasn't right and after a heavy duty course of antibiotics and 2 courses of an anti-parasitic her bloating, fatigue and diarrhea are gone. We do not know for sure if she had small bowel bacterial overgrowth OR parasites (or both), all this time but it's been 4 weeks of "normal" bowel movements!

but reflux is still hanging over all of our heads. We know her reflux is not controlled well. We switched her to Nexium only to have the same results as Prevacid.

A repeat endoscopy showed Inflammation in her esophagus (due to GERD) and small intestine (unknown cause) and NO EE. Basic allergy scratch testing showed NO (common) allergies, and biopsies and blood showed NO celiac.

she is above in proper weight and height for age, she eats (sort of) and we stay away form reflux trigger foods, juice, soda and vitamins included- but it doesn't seem to matter.
br/> She has puked twice in the past week and a half, at night; she is not sick. she is back to coughing and chocking on reflux and saying she is "sick"

i know there are flares, but when you do everything right and give the meds and give the tums and the mylanta on top of that - when is enough, ENOUGH?

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
Oh boy, I hear ya! I kept waiting for all those ages that they said things would improve -- 6 months, 9 months, 12, 18, 2 years.... We're sloping toward 3 and no end in sight. It's very frustrating.

I'm so glad to hear about the improvement on the bloating, fatigue and diarrhea front.

Hi Kat

Sorry that you are still battling this. We are too with Jazz. Just recently put her back on Nexium and it did no better. Finding trigger foods can take years really, it's a constant uphill battle. I have no real advice for you, but I do believe in giving our Lo's systems "breaks" from food groups. Even if you've done that already, sometimes it helps to do it again. HUGS, I know how tough it is......

Just wondering if you've tried gravol with Emily? Also, has she ever been treated ( not tested) for abdominal migrains?

we never had her treated her for abdominal migraines but that is a good thing to ask about i have considered she may have had them in the past. but lately, other then reflux, she has not had the pale or sunken eyes with her episodes.

i never thought about the breaks from food groups, that is a good idea. it might make her want to eat other things. i'll have to figure out a way to do it so she doesn't stop eating again. thanks girls!
