Sleep! It finally happened!!
I think most of you missed out on the peak of our sleep misery, as it has been about a year and half since I gave up hope that good sleep would ever visit our home. We went for the first year with a typical night consisting of 5-7 hours of total sleep with wake ups, often choking, every 10-40 minutes, and very few, very brief naps. It took a year to get a diagnosis of sleep apnea, to add to the reflux diagnosis, and a lot of alternative therapies to get us into a typical night pattern of 7-9 hours with wake ups ever 1-2 hours and more consistent napping (though with numerous wake ups). Until last night, I had not had more than 3 hours of consecutive sleep for three years (and the 3 hour stretches were few and for between), and with the exception of one 5 hour stretch the night before he turned 2, Lorenzo had not slept for more than 3 hours since birth.

Last night he fell asleep around 9pm and did not wake up needing me until...........6am!!!!!!! And to top it all off, I went to bed shortly after he did, and woke up at 5 am, giving me about 7 hours of sleep!!!! Even if it never happens again, the euphoria of waking up after such a long uninterrupted night will be with me for a long time to come......

Thanks to all of you who have always been so supportive through our sleep woes (which I realize may not be totally over), and to all who have yet to get a full night's sleep -- may such a blessed event visit you soon...

congratulations! sounds like santa came early to your house. we have been in the same boat with sleep, well the lack there of in our house. adeline is 18 months now and we have not had a full night sleep since day one. it REALLY works on you. it definately has taken its toll on me! i have aged in these last 18 months. my husband and i went to out to dinner last sunday night and i said to him you know most parents go to dinner, come home and the babysitter has put their child to bed, you go in and kiss them goodnight and you go to sleep. our night is just starting at that time. she is moving around, kicking, whimpering, etc. off and on all night long and then up at 6:35 a.m. she still gets two good naps during the day, but it is because we hold her upright on our shoulder for one and half hours to two at a time. you put her down and blam she is up! i really look forward to that day when we can have our first uniterrupted night. that is my christmas wish!

Thanks for your happy responses -- I still feel elated about it, although it didn't last. The next night he was up for 3 hours in the middle of the night along with the usual wake ups, then no nap, and then last night he barely slept at all. Thank goodness I got that 7 hours, 'cause I might have had to run away from home if I hadn't....

I've had 2 bad refluxers in 4 years and I haven't slept through the night since #1 was born. My oldest will be 4 on Wed. and has started sleeping through most nights in the past month! You could knock me over with a feather. This is the same child who woke up every 10-15 MINUTES until she turned 16 months-old and every 30-45 minutes until she turned 2. Yeah, good times. She was still waking 3-5 times a night until we started giving her her 2 Prevacid doses in a yogurt tube. I think she was chewing the pills before and now she swallows them with the yogurt. Lo and behold she started sleeping through. Of course, my 15 month-old is still up every 30 minutes or so, but her reflux isn't as bad so hopefully she'll sleep through sometime between 2-3 years-old. My friends say that they don't know how I cope. I am just used to being tired I guess?? It doesn't even phase me anymore. Besides, it's not like I didn't know what I was getting into when I had #2, LOL!
