Starting solids, oatmealI just gave my 4-month-old her first solid by thickening breastmilk with oatmeal in a bottle (we didn't start with rice because she has constipation issues) and she had a major reflux flare. What does this mean? I believe we will postpone solids a while longer (I'll be discussing it with her specialist). Any advice for future feedings? My son had reflux, and we started solids at 4 months with no problems.

Not much to add...We started solids with my son at 5 months, which caused a major flare also. So we tried again every month and finally at 9 months he started barley with no flare up and has been eating small amts ever since. IMO- I'd delay solids a bit longer if weight isn't an issue.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I would delay the solids. I didnt start with my non refluxer till 6 months and my refluxer till 8 months. Refluxer's GI tracts are pretty sensitive. Better to wait than be sorry.

I would take it really slow. I agree with pp's about waiting on the solids. For some it can help but with my refluxer son he got worse with everything. I wish that I would've waited with him. So go with your daughters lead. My daughter did fine with solids at 4 months too and was refluxer. I guess it just depends on the child. Good luck!

I went threw the same thing with my daughter. She neeed thickening feedings so I tried oatmeal first thinking it would be less constipating. Although oatmeal made her more gassy, which in return flared up her reflux. Have you tried Beechnut rice cereal? It does not have soy and rice is usually easier on their bellies.
