Daughter, Mia, born IUGR weighing 4 lbs. 10 oz, diagnosed with reflux at 2 months, open heart surgery to repair VSD at 7 months. Currently on Prevacid & Erythromycin. One happy little girl despite her many struggles!
How Long?
The doc has increased Mia's Prevacid from 15MG/day to 22.5 MG/day. She now gets a full tablet in the am and half a tablet in the pm. The nurse said I should see an improvement in 3-4 days. It's been 4 days now. How long did it take for you to see a difference when adjusting dosage? Mia came down with a cold (cough and runny nose) yesterday, so this makes it hard to tell if the meds are working or not. ugh...cold & flu season is the worst.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
Cold and flu season IS the worse, you are right. All that extra discharge is NO fun.

We always saw a difference in about that 4-5 day time frame. I would guess that the cold is making the difference right now. Poor dear. :-(

Are the symptoms worse at night?? You could always do the higher dose at night and the lower dose during the day.

I see she is on Erythromycin, keep in mind that colds and flus can slow the GI tract too, that could be hindering things as well.

AAAWWWWWWW our son has a VSD repair at 6 months old, another CHD survivor!!! Always nice to "meet" one of those.

Colds definately can cause major flare ups. Nate's going thru that now, and we actuallt thoughts that his meds had stopped working but it was just a cold.... HUGS!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
It took us about a week and a half to notice the diffference. I agree with PP... the cold is going to make it hard to notice the difference.
