Axid?
So our upper gi, small bowel follow through, scope and biopsies all show significant damage to Stanton's esophagus, colon and rectum. The gi was pretty sure it looked like food allergies - however - all labs came back negative to allergies! And everything else tested normal too.... except the ph probe. The probe showed several episodes of silent reflux each hour and prolonged refluxing at night. We've been on 15 mg prevacid 2/day, but because of the internal damage, the gi wants us to try 15 mg of prevacid in the morning and 4 ml of axid at night. I just haven't heard any of you guys talking about axid. Have you tried it? What's the benefit here? Thanks!

JMHO but I don't think that is gonna work. Axid is an H2 blocker so it is a weaker med than the prevacaid which is a strong PPI. :-)

By switching, you would be using a lesser of an affective med o his GERD. I would ask to double the pravcaid dose if there is that much damage and it the GI will let you do it temporarily to heal up all that damage. Doubling would all depend on a current weight but I know kids that are on that high of a dose to get healed.

can you ask to add Carafate?? It's designed to help healing as well. It's like super Mylanta.

Don't get me wrong, Jedd is on Axid and it works well for him but he has NO damage and he is using it as a preventative to control his GERD. In the past he has required a hefty dose of a PPI twice a day.

Thanks for HOD opinion! We go back to the gi next Friday so I'll be sure to ask about carafate then.
