Kody update and need input
Hey everyone! I haven't posted in a while. Kody has been on prevacid for about 2 months now and he's been doing pretty good on it. We had him on nutramigen but switched him over to gentlease now. I thought he was doing fine on it but now I'm frustrated again.

I should tell you that our family has been going through upper respitory flu for the last few weeks. Kody has been sick for almost a month. We just finished up antibiotics on Saturday from him going through a bout of bronchitis. Now my daughter has it ugh. Well anyway Kody has been having horrible reflux sounds coming up, gas, and burping a lot. I thought maybe it was teething and him having antibiotics but now I'm not sure. He was on 2 x's aday of prevacid and then I weaned him to once a day. Now we're back to twice a day again. He's sleeping horrible again and crying out at night. I don't know what to do next. He's still on the erythromycin 3 times a day. I don't know if I should try another formula like soy or if this is just because of the antibiotic and his teeth trying to come in. Should I wait a little longer until his teeth come in and he's feeling all well from this bronchitis? He's still really congested and raspy in his chest. I just don't know whether to think it's the formula or just him getting over being sick. I'm sure that someone has dealt with this before and would like to hear some input on what to do. Thanks! Jennifer

adelines mom
We did prevacid for about two to three months and it worked really well and then Adeline got REALLY raspy/weezy on it. That is when I switched to compounded prilosec. Made a big difference! We had been on Axid, Zantac did not work, then prevacid and she has been on the prilosec for about 10 months now. I would definately recommend probiotics! Adeline was on Alimentum for a long time and on my on switched to Nestles Good Start Supreme in the purple can, now called nourish plus. This also made a big difference! Kept it down better and the smell is easier to deal with when it comes back up. She is still on five bottles a day, 5oz. each, at 17 months with some solids three times a day. Still refluxing, but it is better. Teething has been tough!!! Every last one of them. It affects sleep, gas, reflux, etc. EVERYTHING! Hang in there!

Debbie, Mom to:
Derek,10/29/02 GERD,Can't have any legumes(soy, being the worse), allergic to PN/Tree Nuts, struggled to gain weight for years, my "picky" eater,Takes Zegerid. Johnny, 12/05/99 GERD, managed by diet, allergic to cashews/pistachios.
I wonder if he was doing fine on the Prevacid before he got sick, then maybe it's just the antibiotic hurting his tummy. They cause both my children very bad tummy pain and loose stools. Maybe you could try giving him some Maalox before bed to get him through? I hate those antibiotics! Also, is he on any antihistamine to dry him up a little? All that post nasal drip is awful for reflux too. I think you need to let him get over being sick before you change too many things. Good luck, sorry the little guy is sick.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Hi! I wouldn't change anything at all right now. I'm pretty sure it's just the sickness and meds giving his system a hard time. Of course I'm not a dr, but I've heard soooo many moms talk about being set back bc of something as simple as a cold. This type stuff can really send them for a loop and it definitely will make the reflux monster worse :( There have even been kids on here that were off meds for months then got sick and went back to meds for a little while.

I'm so sorry y'all are sick. Hope you feel better soon!

Hey Jennifer! Motility slows down big time with sickness so for us lucky ones who have kids with delayed gastric emptying then a cold slows emptying way down. My rule of thumb with Holden is that I don't try anything new until he is recovered. I am sorry ya'll have had so much sickness.

Thanks everyone for the input. Kody, I think, is all better. Although I guess he still has a little bit of congestion in his nose and chest. I will continue to keep things as they are.

Thanks Tracy for the input. I didn't know that colds and such slowed them down that much. He's having a horrible time with his reflux right now. He had a little bit better day today though. I hope to get over the hump soon. He hasn't been this bad for a really long time so it threw us for a loop. Curses the reflux.

Check with your
doctor first!
