Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
They can do a pH probe, which is a small elxible tube thru the node into the esphagus that sits above the stomach. It meausres how acidic the spit up is. They can also scope and look for redness and inflammation. We've had both, done more than once, but the probe really gave us a good indiation of how often my little one spat up and how acid it really was. HTH

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
Just to let you know, meds will not stop the spitting up or vomiting, it will only make it less acidic. Sorry. It can be hard but the good thing is with good meds on board a child can vomit like there is no tomorrow and be OK. Jedd is. He vomited at least once per day f-o-r-e-v-e-r and has no permanent damage.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Jedd and Zack..puke machines. Z has only STARTED slowing down on the puke at 22 months...(finally!)..he was throwing up COPIOUS amounts 6-7 times per day...every day...and when he was scoped there was no damage..that is really the important thing...prevacid saved his esophagus...of that I'm sure!
