Antibiotics and reflux
My daughter has had two double ear infections, though her symptoms for that seem to be much better, her reflux symptoms are at an all time high. Is it common for antibiotics to through off reflux medicines? She currently is on the highest dose for Nexium and Carafate.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
I was going to sayt hat I don't know if it's the antibiotics fault, but reflux gets SO much worse when the kids are sick!

I know when she had just a cold, it was HORRIBLE. But she really has no other symptoms that aren't reflux related now that the stronger antibiotic has kicked in. But we are back to screaming all the time and she isn't wanting eat. She isn't sleeping either, day or night. We go back to the GI next week. Her last day on the antibiotic is this Friday. I am hoping to see an improvement by next week's appt or I'm afraid they will admit her again for the IV pepcid.

Does teething make the reflux worse too? Wenbo seems to throw up more frequently these days, he is teething, he chews on everything which induces vomitting, ugh, so frustrating, because it's so hard to make him eat.

In my own experience with both kids, I say teething does make it worse. Just because they feel bad anyway and everything seems to make reflux worse. It is frustrating to get a little one to eat, and then only to see they throw it up.

DD 10 mos.
15 mg prevacid solutab/day
dx GERD at 4 weeks
had relatively peaceful 5 months-9.5 months
now regressing, waking 10+ times/night,
not sleeping longer than 1-2 hours,
waiting for bronchitis to go away
docs say secondary reflux b/c of chest infection
Follow up?
Hi...did your daughter's reflux improve after you stopped the antibiotics? We are in the same boat now: Biaxin. We are done with it tomorrow. The GI doc just prescribed Carafate on top of the prevacid she's been taking. I'm just hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. It's been 3 long weeks of waking 8-10 times a night..and now her daytime sleep is shortening too.
