Periactin updateWow is all I can say!!! After about 4 days on the drug Holden began eating like a champ! He is taking his bottles awake and slurping them down! He hasn't taken a bottle awake since he was about 2 months old. He has been dream fed and wouldn't even touch the bottle. Dream feeding is extremely stressful especially with two other children. This is crazy. This doesn't solve the horrible reflux though but it does take a lot of pressure off of me and make me feel somewhat normal again. My world isn't revolving around being home at every feeding for Holden and spending hours on end in a dark room. We also had our follow up appointment in Cincy with our GI Tuesday. He was very excited that the Periactin was working and said that as far as Holden having the choking episodes lately it doesn't warrant surgery to him as long as it is kept under control with meds and we don't have any more pneumonias. There is too big of a chance Holden can outgrow this. In fact he said he doesn't want to see him until age 2 unless he gets better and we want to do a med wean or things get worse. If he hasn't outgrown it by age 2 then he will reevaluate things but for right now he is on a max dose of meds and he has no damage at all so we just wait it out and pray he outgrows this.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen

|That's great! |
My 22 month old is also on Periactin. He's been on it since 1 year old and it was an absolute miracle for us!! For the first time ever he started to pick up food and even put it in his mouth himself. He put on a HUGE amount of weight and is now above average in weight! It also stopped his vomitting overnight, although in theory it's not prescribed for that.
The effects of it do wear off, so you have to cycle it. I have found most people either do 3 weeks on then 1 week off, or 5 days on then 2 days off. We do the 5 days/2 off on and find it works well. I have recently attempted to take him off it twice but he stops eating and starts refluxing/vomitting again, so we will keep him on it for now. It certainly makes life a lot easier and more pleasant for the whole family!! Good luck.
