neocate and gas
Does anyone know if neocate can cause a lot of gas? I've been weaning Kody (8months) onto neocate from bm. He's been doing really well on the bottle but we've noticed a great deal of gas. So bad that he's waking up at night crying from it and also refluxing worse. I know that neocate is supposed to not cause tummy problems but I was wondering if anyone had any problems with it causing bad gas pains? It's getting so bad that now he just won't sleep especially at night. It's a struggle at naps but he sleeps for me a little longer. Night time is a different story. Won't sleep for longer then 2 hours and wakes up screaming. Draws his legs up and arches. He also is sometimes just wide awake and won't go back to sleep. So frustrating right now. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Oh and he just started crawling and is teething. His two top teeth haven't broke through. Causing lots of problems with reflux. So bad we almost went to er on sat. because he screamed off and on for almost 7 hours. No consoling him was happening and nothing was working. It was an awful day to say the least. He eventually passed out on me at about 11 that night. But was up every couple hours doing the same thing. Praying those teeth pop in soon.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I don't know about the gas, but neocate made Allie's constipation even worse than it was (went from green clay like stools after babylax to black pebbles with 3 doses of babylax). Was he exclusively BF or was there also expressed BM into bottles? If he is going from the breast to a bottle, it could be he's not latching onto the bottle well and is sucking in a lot of air. If not, I have no idea!!!! HUGS!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Mylanta mylanta mylanta. Cherry Supreme that is.... It will keep his bowel movements at a pudding consistency, knock out the gas and cut the increase in acid from his teething. Ask the pharmacy to order it if you cant find it and check on the dosage. Jeff from Marci kids told me to give 1 tsp at bedtime. I called it the wonder drug that worked wonders. Also ask your doc about benadryl. It will help him sleep and take the inflamation out of the gums from the teething. Only takes a tiny bit. I wish I had more for you, but this is all I have.

You know- Elecare made Holden have gas the first couple of weeks he was on it. I remember telling our nutritionist that several times but we continued to use it b/c Holden's excema disappeared while on it and soy and milk formula gave him blood in his stools. Well then the gas disaapeared. I dunno other than it is so different than what they are use to eating and it takes a while for their system to get use to it. Could he still be in pain> I guess you will find out on your upcoming scope which I'm sure seems like an eternity away.

Well Kody is now having harder stools that are green and he's also less gassy. I had to give him a babylax. I'm currently giving him baby calm. Karen-I also found the mylanta cherry supreme the other day at of all things dollar general. He had a better night last night and wasn't as gassy. So maybe it is because he's trying to get used to the neocate. I'm going to continue the mag supplement and mylanta and see if that keeps things moving. I'm going to be asking the gi on Tuesday to investigate this chronic constipation. It seems that nothing works for very long on him. Poor little guy. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm currently only bfing in the morning and night. He won't drink very much for me right now but I think it's those darn teeth that won't pop through. UGH!

He may need a higher dose of Mg - I was reading the Baby Calm ingredients and there's 50.25 mg/quarter tsp. Allie was put on 50 mg at 4 months and about 10 lbs. Though I'm sure he's getting some from the formula, PPI's block mineral absorption. I believe the RDA is appx 75 mg for 7-12 months. Just a thought. I hope those teeth come through soon!

Hey slimfast13- I will have to up his dose maybe of the baby calm. The neocate has definitely constipated him. We have had hard stools and some pellets these couple days. I put miralax in his bottle today and I'll have to do that the next couple days to see if it helps. I called the gi on Friday to get the dosage and to let them know that his constipation issues are worse along with his reflux. Well they never called me back ugh! Thanks for the input.
