Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Z's testing
hi all...FINALLY got a call from Z's doc about all the testing...well...I'm happy, but sad..see if you can figure THAT out... His gastric emptying study is borderline abnormal...he digests food slowly, so it hangs out in there longer than it should. But it's not as bad as we thought...or as bad as it once was. The PH probe was basically normal...I mean...that's great, but then WTF is with all this bullshit puking?? Basically the doc said that he thinks 20 months was Z's magic number and that his reflux is FINALLY resolving itself...YAY, but now I'm left with these behavioral eating problems that I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX! We are trialing taking Z off ALL of his meds (no meds would be nice!) and seeing what happens. Wish me luck.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Congrats on ditching the meds! I will have my fingers triple crossed for you. Who knows, maybe taking him off the meds will make the puking stop. Perhaps the Prevacid is the cause and maybe it will kick his appetite into gear. It will be interesting to follow his story. We will be learning right along with you. Another thought on the puking.... have any of his docs commented on Z's tonsils? My nephew was a super puker.. no refux but a puker. They finally took his tonsils at 20 months and it stopped. They were so big he would gag all the time and if there was anything in his stomache... well it didnt stay there long. Ryan's tonsils are big and he is a super gagger but most of the time he is able to keep it down. The oddest things get him. Good luck!!!! - Karen

Ah, it looks like I can pass the "queen of puke" crown off to you ladies. Seriously, I have been up to my eyeballs in puke the last 2.5 years. We are just NOW getting a break.

FWIW when we were on a high dose of a PPI Jedd's gastric emptying was worse. WE had to counter it with a motility agent to even things out. Once we moved to an H2 full time we dropped the PPI. Well, I think it was a few month before that. I loose track.

Anyways, the puking may not be behavioral. If you got a borderline slow GES then I'd say, he may be over full and one tiny little gag will set off a volcano, KWIM??

The REFLUX may be under control, acid wise, but that certainly doesnot mean that the gastric emptying IS under control. Jedd could puke till the cows came home and his reflux was completely under control. We could tell because when his full meds (PPI at the time) were in affect, he could literally FILL the high chair tray with puke and barely bat an eyelash. The acid was completely neutralized. Which was a good thing. I can't imagine what a scope on him would look like if it hadn't been.
