reflux worse, am i missing anything?
I haven't posted here for a loong time, i reply from time to time though. emily has reflux and it's been stable for a while and we just accepted it's not going away.

But Emily's reflux has gotten much worse in the past weeks. By this I don't mean Acid wise, (i don't think at least- she has an amazing pain tolerance so it's often hard to tell) But I mean, the reflux is reaching higher in her throat.

She is coughing on it many times a day, more then i can count. I can actually hear her swallow hard on it and cough it back down. She is drooling a bit more and sticking her fingers in her mouth a lot. She is not teething, she has all of her teeth.

I am worried b/c she has had 2 aspiration pneumonia cases in the past. With the reflux reaching so high i fear it will happen again :( plus emily finds it really annoying that it happens too.

Nothing in her diet has changed, her urine is clear too. We did allergy testing last week and she is not allergic to anything we tested her for. She has been having her random fevers again so we are doing 4 different blood tests and a KUB xray to rule out constipation (haha on a girl with chronic diarrhea... )

is there anything I am missing?

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Don't think you're missing anything obvious, Kat. Could be a flare from a summer bug or she's got some type of specific environmental allergy that's kicking up phlegm. I dunno, I'll keep thinking (I know - it's dangerous...)

You know Kat, Ella has done the same thing to us in the past and we never really figured out what "caused" the flare up, They ended up adjusting her meds and that helped. Her GI basically told us that our expectations that Ella would feel good every day were unrealistic for a kid with severe reflux and that it would ebb and flow and some days would be worse than others. Not exactly what I wanted to hear but it did keep me from pulling out my hair trying to see what was causing the issue. I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this! ((HUGS)) Hope Emily feels better soon!

Kathryn, Just read your post! So weird, Adeline is doing the same thing! In the past two weeks her reflux has gotten worse. Throwing up most of her solids. I jumped off a cliff and changed her formula on Thursday afternoon. Changed to the organic Baby One, we have been on Good Start Supreme for months. Friday was awesome. She was active even slept the night through for the first time in 14 months. HA! Saturday was a different story. Started running a temp and threw up every bottle and her solids the whole day. I went back to her Good Start Sunday morning. Temp as high as 101. Went to her pediatrian this morning. No strep. Put her on amoxi and doing tylenol. This is so weird. She got another tooth about a week ago. But the reflux is the worst I have seen it. She tested negative on all of her allegeries two weeks ago. We are supposed to do endoscopy next monday to check for EE. Gosh we didn't need this right now! We are in Virginia. Don't know if it is the weather or not. The humidity has been terrible and the OT has told me in the past all of her refluxing patients are worse with the weather.

you know jen, we were told the SAME thing... but it turns out from the KUB x-ray that she is completely CONSTIPATED! yep we are there again.... her motility is really crazy. i guess i shouldn't have laughed at the GI huh?

we are still waiting on results of blood test to make sure nothing else is going on but given emily's tentative dx of IBD constipation can cause fevers and fatigue so if we get her cleared out she should start feeling better. thanks girls!

well it's actually a abdominal x-ray but given her background with urology issues she gets a full KUB to look for issues in Kidneys, Ureters and Bladder or KUB as well as issues with intestines and other abdominal structures. Many KUB issues can cause increased reflux, which is why when we see her have increased reflux we always test her for a UTI.

she has had functional constipation as a diagnosis in the past but it was thought that she had grown out of it b/c most kids do and well she poops multiple times a day, 2 x at the least. i don't mean to be vulgar, i don't know the standard amount a 2 year old poops, but she seems to go a lot each time. well each time is loose stool...

we had her on mirilax regularly before but that worsened her situation about a year ago. This time last year she was in the midst of an unexplained mucus diarrhea bout that has gone on and off for the past year and earned her a colonoscopy. I thought we were done with constipation meds for her but i guess we are back to titration of doses again.
