another med similar to Ranitidine?
I just went to the pharmacy to get a new bottle of Ranitidine. His dose was increased to 2.5 ml 2x's a day. It was $50! It was $30ish last time so it kind of took me by surprise...So my question is, is there a similar med out there that isn't so expensive? We have so many dr bills and all that already...And, being that it's very weight sensitive, as Cody continues to grow, it's just going to get more and more expensive! Thanks!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I'd ask the pharm why the cost increased. or call your rx/insurance and ask. It shouldn't be that much - it's generic

I agree. It shouldn't be that much. That is what we pay for Prevacid, which is known to be super expensive. Call your pharmacy insurace company. They will explain why it is so much and you can ask them about other drugs and the cost. For example, our Prevacid increased, I called them and found out why and the cost of other drug alternatives-Prilosec, Nexium, etc. Axid is an H2 blocker you could ask them about. I don't know but I would call them. All insuraces are different but your insurance can give you specifics.

I agree with pp's. It shouldn't be that much considering it's a generic form. Axid is suppose to be similar but it was 50 for us because it didn't have a generic. When we were put on prilosec, I went to pick it up and it was over $100. I found out we needed a medical neccesity form from doc and then it only ended up being $10. You might want to look into that with your insurance. Sometimes your pharmacy will help you on that by calling insurance and finding out what it is you need. Good luck! I know how expensive all of this can be. We're up to our elbows in medical bills on top of all the medications my ds is on. Ouch! I keep telling myself this too shall pass and I hope soon.

Well, I know it was increased because he was taking 2.1 ml, and they upped it to 2.5, so we did get a little bit of a bigger bottle. I briefly talked with the pharmacist and he just said that some generic versions are just as expensive as the name-brand med. (strange, isn't it?) I'll look into the medical necessity thing. Thanks! And yes, this too shall pass......After reading some of the Mom's stories on here, I realize how good we have it, Cody appears to just have a very minor case of reflux. I admire all you for your hard work to get your babies feeling better! =)
