Eating on Vacation
Well we made it back from vacation. What a wonderful and much needed time we had. Holden must have known he was on vacation because he ate like a champ!! Still slept fed his bottles but he ate and he ate some baby food without gagging. Woohoo. I believe the Lord answered our prayers and allowed us to have a wonderful stress free vacation as I would have been a wreck if he wouldn't eat especially with the heat of the beach, etc. Now back to the real world of physical therapy, speech therapy, and nutrition this week. Wish this eating thing would continue but he wouldn't eat his baby food yesterday. I also did not make any of the changes our GI suggested as I didn't want to make anything worse before vacation. But since he is getting back to his old ways I will begin making the changes one week at a time-med changes, formula changes, and then thickness of the formula (He wants to trial not thickening the formula as he said if it is mainly a motility issue thicker liquids can aggrevate that). Wish us luck. It makes me nervous making changes but I guess it is all trial and error and we can always go back. Our next GI appointment is August 25 so he can go over the changes, etc.

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
Hurray for the eating while on vacation. I am glad you guys had a good and relaxing time that you much needed. Best of luck with the coming therapy and med/formula changes. Keep us posted.

Welcome back and I'm happy to hear that Holden was an eater for you and that you had a much needed relaxation time too. Good luck with the changes coming up. Kody was a really great eater on vacation for us too last week and now his system is slow and he's not eating as well. The many turns we take on this ride. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers that everything will be helpful and not too stressful. Take care and hugs being sent your way.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Little stinkers aren't they? :) I am glad he ate for you while on vaca. I was wondering how that was going for you. Makes all the difference on whether or not you can enjoy your vaca too. Do you have a little picnic table? Maybe he would enjoy eating outside on the picnic table. Perhaps it would feel like a mini vacation with no anxiety tied to the kitchen of high chair?- Karen
