Stop Miralax while trying EES?
Hi everyone, You all have been so helpful I have to thank you all! Even though my son is older (8 on Thurs.) he has been suffering with reflux since at least Sept 08 and had been DXed when he was two. So we saw a ped. GI in June who suspected constipation, so we did a Miralax cleanout and maintenance with a cap of it a day. But it was a few weeks out and he was still refluxing, no change and so last week the GI said to try EES to help things move along. So we are one week into the EES 125 mg / 3x a day. He still refluxes, and now seems to want to eat less...........No interest in the Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes this morning, complained of an upset tummy after first dose of EES. ...............Can EES cause less interest in food?.............Also noticed a day or two into the EES that his stools were getting very watery and diarrhea like. Does EES affect intestinal motility also? I have cut back on Miralax to a quarter of a cap and he is pooping loose still........Agh. Does anyone have any thoughts on EES and those issues above? Also does anyone know how long til I'd see a reductionin regurg on EES? THanks again so so much for any thoughts!

EED can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea as side effects. It's pushing things through so it will affect the intestinal tract as well. My son is only 7 months and he's on .44 ml 3x's a day. He still refluxes quite a bit on it but he's eating so much better. He has days where he's having a really slow day and regurgitating often and then good days when everything seems to be moving along. It's frustrating to say the least. Jeddsmommy has a lot of wonderful info on this drug that has helped me a lot. She might chime in with some info for you. But we're giving it a little longer in our case to get some improvement. I would say give it more time because it might take a month to finally work itself out. You might be able to lessen the miralax for a while and see how it goes. He might just have that kind of reaction to the med. It is different for everyone. You could try to put him on some probiotics to help with the gut and his stools. I hope that it works for your son. Good luck!

Thanks Mommy2K, How long has your son been on it? And can I ask you how long did it take for him to get used to the feeling of it? I am going to give it at least another week and maybe more, I am supposed to call the GI in a week or two to let them know, I just hope it works!! I also hope it does the trick for your son! I remember when my son was a baby, reflux is sooo hard with little ones, it seems like it was only yesterday! Enjoy him because regardless of the health issues, they grow up way too fast!!! Thanks again!

This is my sons second round of trying it. The first time he had an awful time with tummy issues with it. It was not going well. We're trying it again but with food and it works without making it that uncomfortable for him. He's been on it this time around for about 2 weeks now. He had some posturing which I think was from the med making him feel bad but he stopped doing that within a few days. He's doing much better. But I will tell you it's hard to find the dosing that will be the best for them. I think we're going to be upping our dose for him because I don't think it's working as well for him to get things moved out. But I'm going to wait another week to see. You could try to give a little less to see if that helps him feel better. You could also try to give it with food. We can't wait the 30 minutes the gi wants us to because it cramps Kody too much but it works when he eats about 10 minutes after. Good luck!

Thanks, He is no where near his supposed daily requirement for calories and hasn't been since he started this erythromycin and still refluxing, day nine of it today....I have been able to just lay off the miralax completely today and he's still ok on that end, the GI wants him going once to twice a day....These pills I have to crush to coax him to eat are hard to play with the dose much more, he's taking half a pill before each meal and then to try to get him to eat after that, that is the trick.

has your son had any motility testing, or are they just going to do a trial by meds? My son has only had a abdominal xray so far but I am biding my time til next week to ask the nurse about a possible scope with biopsy because he does complain of pain off and on and has always been a reswallower, yuck. Thanks again and good luck to you on the Erythromycin, I hope it works out for your son !! :)

We just had a stomach emptying scan done on him a few weeks back which showed that he empties his stomach only 31% in an hour. It's too bad that the U.S. doesn't have any other motility drugs besides reglan and erythro. I hope that your son will start feeling better soon.
