I need some help
My 4 month old has really bad reflux. He gets sick at pretty much every feeding. He is on Prevacid but he is still spitting up all the time. We have tried reglan and that didnt help because he didnt want to sleep when he was on it. we tried zantac that didnt help I have taken him to a GI dr 2 diff times and they are telling me there is nothing we can do to help him but let him out grow it. The dr told me to help the Prevaicd since its not helping with the reflux but our family dr said dont stop it so I dont know want to do I have tried to stop it and my little man just cries all the time. We have tried Nutramigen and the AA kind and neocate the AR kinds and soy nothing is helping with this problem. I just feel like no one will help me and I just wanted to see what you ladies think would help since the dr dont want to help. Thanks Brandy

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
You have come to the right place. We will help you and will not let you feel like you are climbing this mountain alone. If you can find some time today send us a little more info. Weight, now long he has been on the meds, what kind, how much. Try to be as specific as possible. This group of moms have seen it all. Hang in there. We will all work together to get you through this.

he was 14lbs 2 ozs on monday he is on Prevacid right now he takes it 2 times a day half of a 15mgs at a time. I think he has been on this for about 2 months now. and we are going to be starting enfamil lipil formula since the dr told us not to worry about another formula since he was still spitting up on it. He isnt on any other meds right now. This problem started when he was 2 days old the nurse gave him formula so I could get some sleep and that day he started spitting up the formula but wouldnt spit up as bad when I was bf him but I didnt have the milk he need so I had to stop that. if you need more info let me know. like I said in the other post we have tried all kind of formula with no help there and we have tried reglan and Zantac and they didnt help any.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Honestly, without motility meds, nothing will stop the vomit except time. Once you get the acid out of th equation, it's a laundry issue. The key is, however, to get the pain GONE. You may want to ask your MD about adding in an H2 blocker (we used all three, but the reconstituted Pepcid worked the best for us) and we did that in the morning and th ePrevacid full tab at night (this is when we saw a HUGE difference. Night was her worst, and if you can give the PPI when you figure out their worst time, it can really help.) He also may need a higher dose since the baby metabolism is warp speed.

Also, I've found that MD's and pharmacists don't tend to be very clear on how to administer the prevacid. The Prevacid must be given on EMPTY - one to two hours after last feed and at LEAST 15 min (if possible, closer to 30) before the next. No other meds within 2 hours either side of the prevacid.

Has anyone discussed using Maalox or Mylanta for breakthrough pain? Has he been scoped? Ph Probe?

We did 8 formulas before my dd was 4 months old....none really made much of a difference in the reflux, but she did better on the hypoallergenic for the constipation. So we stuck with Nutramigen for a long haul. Eventually I weaned her to Good Start (no allergies for her or fam history, and my wallet needed a break.) She did wonderful on it. There are options out there, mama - this is the best place to find all of them!!!!!! HUGS - we've been there and survived. Not altogether willingly at times, but we did!

Kids will "outgrow" reflux at all different ages, it took us until 2 to really get a good handle in things. It all depends on WHY the child is having vomiting/reflux issues. If it is do to motility issues, it could go on for a very long time.

As far as OTC Mylanta and such. Call the pharmacist with a recent weight and they will tell you what dose you can give.

Check with your
doctor first!
