Definetly a bad case of hiccups. Does she do this with every feed? Does it seem to bother her? Any spit ups, gulping, etc? How is her eating?

I think it's just the hiccups. I would think that if it was being brought on my reflux you would see more "pain" associated with them. All though, if you are using meds, the pain will not be there.

She seems to be having a hard time swallowing with the hiccups. Does she do that all the time even without the hiccups or is it just because she has the hiccups. You can tell when she kinda grimaces as she swallows, it's like it's hard for her to do, but I really think it's being caused by the hiccups.

You also have to think about how often she gets the hiccups, does she get them several times per day for long periods of time???

I don't know, I don't really think it's reflux related, but that could be negated if you are using meds, like I said before.

I think what I'm trying to say is, I need more info to decided..>LOL

not just hiccups
look at the video and stop it at 1:13 to 1:15.... look at the expression on her face and look at where her throat is like caving in.... She has had hiccups since she was born and this is more than hiccups.. its happening at every feed...

She is making some cringing faces. What does she do on her bottle? Is it just with solids? Some solids can reaaly aggrevate reflux. What does your pedi say about it? You can trial mylanta and see if it helps. If so, get your pedi to prescribe an H2 blocker or PPI. You could also get a scope or EGD done to see if there is damage. If it is hurting her that bad then there will be damage present. My son hiccups all the time but he also screamed bloody murder with every feeding until he got the right dose of Prevacid. Now, he refuses most food due to reflux even though there is no damage. She may have some reflux. Has this been going on since birth?

?
she is on prevacid now and has been since about 4 months. Tried Zantac first and it didnt help. At about 6 weeks or so she started having a lot of gas, hiccups, constiaption, excessive drool etc. She started fighting feeds and after a couple ounces would scream and refuse to eat. She was eating every couple hours at 4 months and arching her back, stiffening up etc. Childrens nutritionist had us thicken feeds with rice cereal, switch to alimentum and use prevacid which seemed to help for awhile. At 6 months ped has us start solids. She started refusing bottle with rice cereal so we just stopped thickening it. it seemed to be ok for awhile but then she got sick and has been sick for over 3 weeks. Had ear infection was put on antibiotics. Her ear infection is gone but she is still sick with what ped says is viral infection and laryngitis.. she hardly has a voice and is really congested.

I was NOT implying she did not have reflux. I was saying, if you are on meds and they are doing the job and there is NO pain, there is really nothing you can do to stop the reflux.

When a child is put on meds all it will do is stop the pain from the reflux it will not stop the refluxing.

Jedd is proof positive of that. He puke till there was NO tomorrow. but his meds did their job and his throat stayed protected.

This is JMHO and I'm not a Dr but, in the video it just looks like she had the hiccups from reflux BUT that the meds are doing their job. If the meds were not covering her, she would be in alot of pain. We're talking screaming, arching, refusing foods, head, arms and legs throwing around....and worse.

Not all kids who have reflux refuse foods though, some really eat ALOT because it soothes their pain in the throat.

Again, any GERD med will NOT stop reflux symptoms, it will only make the pain go away so that the child can be protected.

Check with your
doctor first!
