Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I called the emailed the folks at the University of Missouri in Columbia ada Marci-kids to see what it would take to come see them. I am only 5 hours away from them. They asked what was going on and they think I am having a dosing issue with Ryan. A. They believe he should be on 45 mg per day not 30 especially while he is teething and B. We need to change off the solutabs to the capsules and mix them with caracream. They are even sending me some to try. The thought I think is that he is likely crushing the solutabs thus exposing the medicine to the acid in his stomach making it ineffective. I called my GI and was told No to the higher dose by the nurse so then I called the ENT. I am a resourceful one. If mom says no, then go ask dad... Anyway they are giving me samples of the capsules to let me try the caracream idea and said that while I wait for it to arrive in the mail to mix it with one tbls of applesauce. Give that a try for a week and see what happens. They arent convinced about increasing the dosage just yet as they want to see what happens if we change the way we give it to him. I did a search on caracream on this site and found a few people talking about in the past. Anyone still using it?

I haven't ever used it but I have heard of others that have and loved it. I know for some kiddos MARCI kids dosage is way too much but for others they really have found relief with this dosage. Holden is on a MARCI kids dose and it spelled relief for him. Still obviously has major reflux issues but he has no damage and for that I am thankful. Some say too high of a dose makes their kids lose their appetite but you know the way I look at it is what do you have to loose if at your current dose your child is still having major issues that wind him up in the ER. I am glad that your ENT is willing to at least try something different and think "out of the box". You go momma at calling someone else!! What drives me crazy is that when things obviously aren't working doctors not willing to try something else. I know some docs aren't knowledgable about MARCI kids research and feel uncomfortable dosing that much but I have to say the research I've read from them does make sense and it sure doesn't hurt to try it. Very interested myself in how this turns out. My pedi believes in MARCI kids dosage when lower doses aren't helping he will work kiddos up to the recommended dose until they find relief. He just says some babies metabolize so fast and that if a PPI isn't working that the main reason is because it isn't dosed high enough. Now he doesn't go straight to that dosage b/c for some kids it is way too much but he is willing to think out of the box and this is my pedi not even my GI (although he will dose it too if needed). Good luck to you!

we have never tried caracreme but we have tried capsules and it was an absolute BLUNDER for us. i don't know what was different about capsules vs solutabs but they just did not work. We mixed the capsules with plain yogurt and we mixed them with applesauce and they seemed like it hurt her worse then with no prevacid at all.

it was my vague understanding that they discontinued carecreme? if not, i really hope it works for you!
