Rice Allergy too????
Ok- so we had blood allergy tests run- and Johnnie has a severe Milk, Egg, Peanut and Soy allergies. They only ran a general screening for the most common allergens in kids - so not everything. I have switched from Nutramigen to Neocate Jr and have not noticed any change in 1 1/2 weeks. I am still thickening it with rice cereal. He needs all the calories he can get. I know some of you had a hard time with rice and use simply thick or other thickeners. Do you think I need to stop using the rice and try something else to see or is it just not enough time since I took him off the Nutramigen? The Ped today started him on Zyrtec for allergies too and amox for ear infection!

It takes 2-4 weeks to see a difference. So wait a little longer. If you don't see an improvement after 4 weeks ( I know you hate to wait that long) then trial something other than rice. You want to give the formula plenty of time b/f changing anything else and it takes a while for their gut to heal and the allergens to rid their body. My oldest boy was allergic to rice and oats though. If you do end up using simply thick though let me know and I'll tell you what our nutritionist is having us do since it has no calories. Good luck.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
I just always keep hearing that rice is bad for these babies. I would switch to oatmeal or do the other thickeners.
