what testing should I push for?Well I tasted the neocate and it's a little bit better than the nutrimengen. It'll probably be easier to get it down him. I'm concerned about him right now. Yesterday he just kept fussing. He also had been refluxing a lot more. He had a ton of gas and was bloated. He wouldn't sleep. Then when we finally tried to put him down he still acted hungry after I already bf him. So we tried some neocate. Well he vomited it up which he has never done and then he lost his breath on one of the refluxes. It scared me to death. I had to give him a suppository just to help get things out. He let out explosive gas and a little poo. Then we finally got him to sleep. He seems to be having that swallowing problem again as well and he's even more congested today. Needless to say it was a horrible night. It seems to be a pattern. He has a really good few days which he's letting the gas out and poo. Then he has fussy days and nights, pushing and arching. He also just moans and I know that his tummy hurts. He doesn't sleep and every feed is horrible at that point.
I know that the gi thinks it's allergy related but I'm afraid that the formula will make him stop going entirely. We will have to do it though unless we find a new gi to rule out the allergies. Do other babies act like this with allergies? We have no food allergies in our family so I have a hard time believing that it's a multiple food allergy thing. It's just not fitting.
So my final question is what should I push for at this point? Do I push for something that tests his motility? I didn't want to put him through a bunch of testing but something is wrong. He already had the upper gi. Do I push for a ph probe? He still can't eat solids because everything gets worse. He has a worse tummy ache and grunting a groaning all night. Once he has a huge bm then he's good for a little while. He has been like this for two days without any solids and I'm just ready to cry. He's suppose to be getting better at 6 months not worse but it seems to be that way.

|Holden has ver had poo or gas issues. He is a vomiter , but his stomach is slow to empty but once it gets past that point he is fine. Most kids with motility issues are pukers but not always especially if the motility lies in the lower GI tract, etc. I would start off with a scope w/ biopsies (check for allergies and damage and a swallow study.) Maybe someone else will have some better ideas for you. Holden has food allergies and is on Elecare but his reflux isn't allergy related. Good luck. I know it is hard to put them through testing. Did you say your older daughter had Hirschprungs (however you spell it) or that may have been someone else?|

mommato3My hubby and I have had a rough weekend with Kody and I'm pretty sure he is pretty sick right now but no fever. Something is definitely wrong. Everytime we take him to the ped everything is fine. He's coughing a lot which is probably from the croup he had. He's also not eating very much for us. He went a long time last night without eating and this morning I gave him a bottle of breastmilk and he only drank like 3 ounces of it. He's just not himself. We probably are going to go ahead and get a second opinion with another gi. I think that yes Kody could possibly have a milk protein intolerance but I don't think that's his main issue. We need testing done. Yes it is my daughter that has hirschsprungs disease. She's now almost 10 but we went through hell when she was a baby. She didn't get diagnosed until 8 months. We went through a lot of testing with her and it was awful to see and endure. I hate having to wait for another gi appt but our gi doesn't see Kody until September anyway. I just feel that we should be looking at something else besides allergies at this point. Although Kody gets his poo out he seems to go days where it's hard for him to get it out. He also has big poos and then has a great couple days then. It's like everything gets backed up and then he's awful. Exactly like my daughter was except she always couldn't poo. I don't know. I have another day of tears just listening to my little guy go through this. My gut instinct says that something is going on and it's not allergy related. Something in his system isn't working right. I'm going to the ped again tomorrow if he's still like this just to see if he's got an ear infection or something in his chest. I need to advocate for Kody and push for something to be done but don't know what. I guess I'm not screaming loud enough at the doctors. It's all a waiting game for them. Meanwhile he's getting worse and isn't eating as well anymore. He's not breastfeeding as well but also won't take in much in a bottle either. Scope sounds like it should probably be our next step. It could show us at least if he has damage and get the biopsies done. That's how we found out about my daughters damage when she was older.

Mom to two refluxers. DS 4.5 years, on prevacid since 5 weeks. Trial wean this summer...fail. Intolerant of dairy and soy DD born Nov 2010. Currently on zegerid. Had stomach malrotation & surgery at 9 months. Avoiding dairy/soy with her while BFing.
|Sorry you are going through all of this. I don't know all your son's history but it sounds like you've had a miserable time lately.
Has he always had these constipation issues? Or is this just with the change to formula? Are you doing a strict diet elimination with the BFing? I found it was more than just dairy with my son. It was night and day when I finally eliminated soy too. Soy made him have horrible gas, the grosses poops and would not sleep well. Are the meds he is on causing constipation as a side effect?
I would definitely push for more testing or another opinion. Do you live by a good pediatric hospital? I hope you find some answers soon.|

Barium Swallow TestHas your LO done the Barium Swallow Test yet? Your situation sounds a lot like ours. Zane is now 8 months, going on 9months and we just had this done and found out that is why he's congested when he eats and the recurrent ear infections. You mentioned he was having a swallowing problem. I'm new to this site, so I'm not sure if you've done this test yet or not. I'd be more than happy to tell you more about our situation if you'd like.

|mangogal-He has always had a little problem with pooping. The doctors always say this is normal. It just got worse when we were on the formula. I did eliminate soy and nothing changed. I think that the doctor has beaten us over the head with the allergy thing. We have no history of allergies in our family so it doesn't make sense. We are currently going to a pediatric hospital and we feel like we're getting the runaround.
dgriffith- Is the barium swallow test the same as a upper gi? That's the only test that we've done. It did show reflux on that. I would love to hear more about your story. We've been through the ringer with him. He seems to have a swallowing problem when his reflux is at his worst. The gi is on a panel for allergies and only wants to look at that. My hubby says that he keeps doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result which is definition of insanity. I don't know. What kinds of issues did you deal with and what did you find out with your son? I'm in the process of another opinion because the allergy thing even after journaling what I ate isn't adding up. Thanks|
