Holden
Well, I have been frustrated lately with Holden's vomiting. If he cries for even a split second he vomits. Three nights last week when I laid him down after his bedtime bottle, he woke up and cried and even though I rushed to him and picked him up immediately, he threw up (everything that took me 11/2 hours to sleep feed him).He is also cutting teeth and wanting to chew on his hand but if he gets it in his mouth (which almost always happens) just a little too far, he vomits. That happened last night. Well, he got a new feeding therapist that we have been waiting on for a long time. I asked around and everyone I talked to said if your child has a feeding disorder this is the person you want to see him. Well, she came over today with this cup called a straw bear cup. It is not the straw bear cup that can be ordered for feeding b/c she told me that one is too hard (which is what Jessica had said too) but this was a soft honey bear that she actually gets from our local honey maker. She then takes the tubing that she gets from the straw sippy cup that she will wean him too next and uses that straw for the straw bear that way it is the same straw. She then makes this little shield that slips over the straw for Holden to use a base so he doesn't jab the straw down his throat and get turned off. I was very skeptical that Holden would drink out of a straw at 7 months b/c he is so aversive to his bottle and would rather starve than take his bottle (he's slept fed). Well, she put some watered down pears (which he likes) in this straw bear. She started working wih him and by the end of thehour long session he was sucking it and loving it. In fact he was coming for it and being very aggresive about it. I was in tears b/c I told her I've never seen him WANT food since he was about 6 weeks old. eventually when he is comfortab;e and trusts the cup we will put his formula in it. Anyway, I had a little bit of hope today and in shock he sucked this thing and wanted it. Thanks for listening! Also she wants me to start making some of his baby food (anything that can be pureed without cooking-pears, avocados, canteloupe, etc.) b/c of the natural enzymed found in them she says her kids with volume issues do really well when they can get on this type of diet. The jarred stuff has been heated which hurts the enzymes, etc. Obviously he is still young but there are some things I can make without cooking before pureeing. Does anyone know much about diet? We also use digestive enzymes.

That's awesome! It's good to hear that progress with him. Kody isn't really a puker but he is always shoving his fist in his mouth and almost pukes everytime. He also starts to cough and almost throws up when he cries too. I feel for you about that one. You're doing such a great job with him though. They owe us for putting us through the ringer. lol I don't have any advice about diet though sorry. Good luck!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Wow!!! That is awesome! Snap a picture of that contraption for me sometime. I was telling Ryans OT that I was was going to use Jedd's mom's hair color bottle trick. She was a bit nervous. She was really worried that I would get the liquid or the straw too far in the back of his throat, he would choke and then straws would be out too. Do you suppose she would let me buy one of her contracptions?? As far as the diet, did you find your feeding specialist through Early Access? If so, they have nutritionists as part of their team. I have just started working with one here. Barnes and Nobles has quite a few homemade babyfood cookbooks. Check those out.

We suspect that he has croup which other doctors had to tell us but not our ped. I don't know how they missed that. So now we're not sure we will do the x-ray because I'm pretty sure we'll just end up paying more money for something that won't show anything. At the time we asked for it we couldn't find the reason for it until he got the fever and the coughing too now. He's just miserable right now. We get so frustrated because we can never tell if it's his reflux or him being sick. We get so used to certain things we miss the clues of him just being sick. Oh well! Thanks for asking. You're so sweet.`

/P/That's great about the cup!!!/p/ /p/Katie does much better digestion wise with cooked foods rather than uncooked ones. Kinda like adults and cooked vs. raw veggies. She can eat cooked apples but raw ones give her horrible gas. That would be my only thought with raw veggies for someone his age./p/
