Can you hear reflux?
Can anyone hear thier child reflux? I swear that I hear my daughter make a high pitched swallowing noise. We are doing an impedence test today and that is one of the symptoms they programmed into the unit for us to track. I've never heard anyone else have a child with the noise...just curious.

Yes I can always hear my son reflux. He is a silent refluxer but it is pretty audible when he does it. I hope that the test helps you out. Keep us updated.

I can hear my son reflux all the time. We had to record all that stuff to for our probe. It was very interesting to see how what I recorded correlated with the reflux episodes. Let us know how it goes. I hope this gives you some answers. I know our did.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
we could hear it as well. Plus we could hear and see Joslyn swallow it back down. Very yucky and scary

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
we could see and hear Z swallowing just like Joslyn...still can...and he puked a lot, but that's rpetty hard to miss! lol

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Oh my yes - the non-silent is audible as well, especially when it hits a wall at speed! But the "silent" reflux you can get anything from an audible gulp to hearing the surge up and down. Many kids choke on this as well. There are so many signs *sigh*

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
when emily was about 6 months to about 18 months we would hear her reflux in her throat and it would sound like she was going to puke but nothing ever came out. she would sometimes cough or choke other times she did nothing but swallow. she never made a high pitched noise but you could hear her audibly swallowing. she is now 29 months and it is not that bad all the time like it was but she will still sit on your lap and you can hear her reflux in her throat. good luck at the impedance probe
