Impedence test tomorrow - still refusing bottle
My 7 month old is having the impedence test tomorrow. After 7 months of bottle refusal off and on and horrible night time sleeping, I am so ready to finally get some answers. Anna has been waking up at night and screaming for 1-4 hours. Sometimes if I pick her up she stops crying and other times there is nothing that will make her feel better. She's on 15 mg of Prevacid split into 2 doses and is 18 lbs. I don't know how she weighs so much because she only takes 10-14 oz of formula a day and then as much solids as I can stuff in her. Our GI doc said after the impedence he'll know whether we should do the endoscopy but I think I'm going to request that he just do it so hopefully we can get some relief. What we really struggle with is if this could be behavioral (the sleeping and eating issues). But why would a child choose not to take a bottle...right? I guess no real questions here...just need to vent.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I am in the same spot as you. I will be watching to see what you find out. What is an impedence test?

The impedence test is where they put a tube through the nose down to the stomach for 24 hours and monitor the amount of reflux and the acidity of the reflux. It should tell us once and for all if this is behavioral or reflux.

Ah ha! Thanks. Dont be surprised if it is a bit of both. Ryan was in pain for so long before we got the dose right that even though that is under control, he still doesn't want to drink. Too many bad memories. I just sent a note to Jedd's mom to see if she has any ideas for me. He doesnt throw the cups of juice or water at me anymore but he lets the milk run down his chin and then throws the cup. I am exhausted like you.

Good luck to you! That is great they got you in! Last you reported it would be 2 months1 I hope you get some answers. Are they doing impedance probe or PH probe? Are you doing it on or off meds?

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
I'm scheduling the probe today actually..we are going to do it on meds...if it's controlled ont eh meds then we will leave things alone...however that will really piss me off as I need some ANSWERS! lol...good luck to us all...hopefully I will have the Gastric Emptying Scan results back today!

Yep, we're doing it on meds. They inserted the tube this morning. Lots of crying but after it was in she was fine. She's sleeping in her crib now. Will be interesting to see what happens when she wakes up and finds her arms are bound so she can't bend them.
Check with your
doctor first!
