UUGGHHH doctors
Well I called the gi this morning and guess what all the doctors are out today. How can all of them be out of the office. My gi won't be back until Thursday. The nurse said that it wouldn't be until tomorrow that the doctors would get back to me. I'm so frustrated. Kody had a better night last night but we also dosed him with mylanta. He also is still off of his erythromycin and the nurse was sounding like I was crazy to take him off of it. I hate the gi nurse that I have to talk to. I like our gi but he's never there and his nurse is so nonpersonal. It drives me nuts! Of course Kody is fussy today along with my 9 year old daughter acting up. SOrry just needed to vent a little. It HAS to get better right?

Well I got a call back from the gi. They want to just increase his zantac and they want him on the erythromycin still. Are you nuts! They were condeming me for taking him off of it. I argued with them and told them I will not give it to him. And why won't they prescribed him a ppi? Is it supposed to be this hard to get your child on a ppi? His reflux and congestion and coughing is worse. He's starting to spit out his acid now. They are so frustrating me right now. I guess maybe I could screm at them but I'm talking to the nurse who doesn't know the answer just can relay it to the doc. This of course is not my doc that they are talking to. I don't even know if my doc would prescribe a ppi. AAHHH I just want to scream! Something has got to work for my little guy. Anyway thanks for letting me vent. Any advice on what I can do to make docs listen would be greatly appreciated?

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
That is crazy that they won't prescribe a ppi for your little refluxer. Maybe you need to find another GI and in the meantime have your pediatrician prescribe prevacid for you.

I hate how the nurses know NOTHING it makes the process that much more frustrating, and then they play that game of "telephone" and always screw things up along the way. is there a physician's assistant you could talk to instead of the MA or RN? I was belittled by the RN when I took emily off Reglan but i was praised by the PA because she had all the early warning signs of a bad reaction to it. I LOVED how well it worked but it made her a raving maniac. I would love to get her on EES but can't b/c the urologist would not clear it for her b/c of her kidney. I digress- Mama's always know best! It did take some pushing to get emily on a PPI and that was even AFTER she had a scope that showed mild inflammation while on a high dose of Zantac- UGH right? but i would not think a doctor other then your own would make that switch for you, it usually doesn't happen. I learned not to take anything as final until you speak personally with the dr. I was told to write a letter to the dr outlining all the important facts i needed them to know, you can also call and make another appointment. *hugs* it will get better!

Big hugs your way! It shouldn't be that hard to get your little guy on a PPI. I hope when your GI will be of help when he returns. If not, you may have to find another one. We just had to do that ourselves and it was no fun. Thanks for checking into the E-mycin allergy thing! I just told my husbnd and he couldn't believe it. Keep us updated.

update
Well I got another call back from them after I was basically telling them off today. The nurse called back and said change of plans. Darn right. They surprisingly decided to put him on prilosec 2ml 2x's a day. I was pretty livid so I guess it worked. Let's just pray that this helps him. He's had a horrible reflux day. I guess the erythromycin was pushing things down for him. Now he's just a snotty, coughing, screaming and gagging mess. I hope that this makes him feel more comfortable. Does anyone know if that prilosec dose would be a low dose? I was just wondering if they prescribed enough to really help him or if they went low again.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
There is a website called Marci -kids.com. They have great information regarding dosing of PPIs. The generic name for Prilosec is omeprazole. Please remember to not expect the PPI to turn things around immediately. It takes a little time. Not what you wanted to hear I am sure but I didnt want you to have have the expectation that you would see results in a couple of days and then be disappointed. Can one of the other moms out here that has expirience switching from Zantac to a PPI give some advice on the switch over. I seem to recall reading that you should give them both for while, put not at the same time of day, until the PPI builds up in their systems??? Maybe I am dreaming that though... We were given Prevacid right from the start so I am not familiar with the switch and what to expect.
