how soon for carafate to work?
After all the great advice on here I've adapted our schedule to ensure that DD gets carafate 2 hrs after eating and 1/2 hr before another meal. It's been a tough day but we've done it! My question is how soon should I expect results? Should I give it a week of this? Two weeks? A few days? I've had to restrict the number of meals she gets as a result, so if it's not working I really want to go back to feeding her as frequently as possible. She's not even 14 lbs at 10 months - she can use as many calories as possible.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I would say at least 2 weeks. Esp if there is damage that needs to get healed up.

They do eventually GROW I promise. Jedd weighed 12lbs at 6 months old. He is 2.5 years now and weighs 30lbs.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I agree with jeddsmommy - at least 2 weeks. Will she take a bottle? Just a thought to maybe supplement right after nursing for a few minutes to make sure she's getting as much as possible.

Oh, and at 20 months, my dd's only 21-22 lbs, but she's a little tank. She's small, but nothing stops her! Don't fret about weight too much unless there's a loss or she's totally stagnated. And when she feels better, she should eat more.

She seems to have stagnated quite a bit. She was 12.5 lbs at 6 months and at a 10 month weight check hasn't even reached 14 lbs. The last two months she's barely gained half a pound. My other DD was teeny too, so I know that they do grow eventually, but I'm also starting to see some setbacks in my infant's development which I suspect (hope!) is weight related. I'll try to be diligent this week and fortunately we get to see the GI in a week now. Thank you!
