congestion questions
I was reading some old posts about congestion problems and reflux? Kody has always been congested but most of the time it's been in his chest not his nose. Now his chest is more congested and his nose has now been congested on top of it. He's been getting worse over the last couple weeks. I would say it really got noticeable when we were put on axid. We were also told by gi that he doesn't have reflux and just a milk protein intolerance or allergy. He has done better now that I've completely taken out the hidden dairy in my diet. We even tried to take him off of his meds last night and this morning and he started to get cranky again. So we gave it to him this afternoon. I just don't know what to think about all the congestion that keeps getting worse over the last couple weeks. I know that the gi will say it's from the milk but his symptoms have been improving except he's getting even worse on the snottiness. Any help or input on this? How long will it take if it is a mpi for the congestion to get better?

Adeline eventually got congested on prevacid and we switched her to compounded prilosec. The pollen has been incredible in our area and have noticed on the really bad days she get congested and most of the times it is at night. She sleeps elevated on the Tucker's wedge. I also use the saline drops and that does help.

I'm currently struggling with Kody's GI about the reflux thing. After trying to take him off of his meds, it didn't go that well. He also has been as many drugs as it sounds like your daughter was on from the posts I read. Ever since he's been on this axid it's been really bad congestion. I'll try to get some saline drops to help with his nose. Does that help with the chest congestion as well? Anyway thanks!

reflux does cause congestion in chest too. what happens is the reflux irritates the lining of the esophagus and causes mucus to be produced, it settles in the chest or throat. if he refluxes and spits up or throws up or the reflux reaches up to his throat that's when he would become congested in his nose too.

on the flip side dairy allergy can cause snottiness too it can take a week or two to heal and go away.

with the chest congestion i would try one of those vicks humidifiers or some vicks rub. have you ever tried zyrtec or benedryl?

Kat do you know if chest congestion is a sign of allergy too? He's also been hoarse and gurgley. Things keep improving except his reflux and his congestion.

Did the GI listen to his lungs? Not to scare you, but GERD can cause problems with pneumonia.
