MPSPI questions
For those that have a suspected mpspi, did you find out about the soy after seeing the results of taking soy out? I breastfeed my lo right now. I found out that I was having some hidden dairy and once I totally eliminated that he's been doing so much better with his reflux and his poops. It was amazing so I hate to say I was wrong but I was. The darn GI was right I guess but I still don't know for sure about the soy protein. Kody absolutely won't take alimentum so now we're going to try nutramagin but he hates that too even mixing it with bm. I don't think he'll take it unless I stop breastfeeding which I don't want to be yet eventhough he's being a booger. Sorry so long just trying to figure all this out. He had soy before but his gas was stinky and his poo but he wasn't that I remember uncomfortable from it. Of course it's been a while. Is stinky poo and gas a sign of allergy to it or just the way soy is? Thanks for putting up with so many ?'s. This has been a horrible day today. I hope I get some type of sleep tonight. I think he'll end up being trading from me to hubby all night. He's so uncomfortable right now and I feel so bad for him. Anyway thank you to everyone for listening to me whine.

for emily her intolerance to soy was puking and diarrhea, there are other symptoms to soy intolerance like just overall more fussiness gas and uncomfortableness. the best way to tell if soy is the culprit is to eliminate it from your diet. that means vegetable oil and most processed foods b/c they have soy lecithin or soy oil in them.

they (enfamil company, our GI and our lactation consultant) say not to mix breastmilk and formula. i don't remember the exact specifics but i think it had something to do with how the liver processes it. you should ask the pedi just to make sure, it may be okay now- you know how they are always changing kids stuff lol.

if you want to keep breastfeeding but you want to switch him to nutram. you can pump to keep up your supply so that way in a couple days you can get back to breastfeeding too.

If there is a true allergy to dairy, there is something like a 40% chance of also being allergic to soy. My son showed problems with soy mostly by developing eczema & being cranky. We had to go to Neocate. But, again, I'm talking true allergies here. El

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Adriane reacted to the soy with vomitting, diarhea, excema and wheezing. But like the pp that is because Adriane had a true allergy to it. I agree with Kat about the bm. I think you might try pumping but not offering the bm until you are sure you can eliminate what you think might be the offending foods. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the input. Kody is a totally different baby today. He's happy and his poo has been yellowish again. Still a little runny though. His congestion is there and I can still hear his reflux coming up but he's not screaming about it. I don't know what to think. I took out the dairy that I was consuming and he's been better today. Would he be better after a whole day of not consuming the little bit of dairy I was having? I don't want to get my hopes up at all about this. I hope that I won't have to stop breastfeeding though. Gotta go my little guy is awake.
