Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
so typical of reflux
So Katie literally went about a month with not a single stomach ache. I was so excited and when we met with our GI on Friday I was thrilled and said she is doing so well and no tummy aches.

So of course, after I dared to make such a proclamation she has had a stomach ache every day since.

Nothing major and it is still well controlled......but it just goes to show......

Hi. Sorry to hear about the return of the stomach aches. I saw in your siggy that Katie had a scope that showed damage in stomach & esophagus. Did they elaborate on what kind of damage or what they think is causing it? My middle child (dd who is almost 10) also has an issue with milk products & has been complaining of stomach aches for about 7 months. Before that she had occasional nausea/vomiting & before that, she had severe constipation. So, her symptoms really evolved over time. I'm praying it is just a dairy/reflux problem. Ellen

Hi there. It turned out that she had gastritis ( inflamation in the stomach) and inflamation in the esophogus. The dairy was painful on these areas which is why we thought she was lactose intolerant.

Turns out she has no issues with dairy. It was just all the damage inside of her.

After she was put on a high dose of meds and she started to heal up she has no problems with dairy.

If she has a flare up, I try to remove dairy until she feels better.

Sorry, I didn't answer what caused the damage.

After she was weaned off meds at a year and a half she slowly started getting stomach aches starting around age 2 1/2. I unfortunately did not take it seriously enough. Through the course of a year the stomach aches got worse and more frequent. By the time I took her to the ped. to get back on meds it was too late. She had so much damage that the amount of meds the ped would prescribe wasn't enough.

Once we got to a GI and got the scope back the doc could see how much med she needed to be on.

If yours is having consistent stomach aches I would head straight to the GI.

I sure hope that Katie starts feeling better. My daughter Kaeli is 9 and had been off of reflux meds for a long time until around 7 she started getting frequent stomach aches and we had to be put on prevacid after the scope showed some irritation. It's definitely a roller coaster and I always want to knock on wood if I say things are going so good. She now tells us when she gets heartburn and then we give her tums now so we haven't had to be on meds again. It's always a mystery to what's going on and we're the detectives half the time. Good luck!
