Prevacid causing extreme gas pain?
Hi...I'm new to the forum...my Ellie was diagnosed with GER 3 weeks ago. She was prescribed zantac and had bad reaction. Next was prescribed prevacid (7.5 mg per day). Her reflux improved but now she's having extreme gas pain. She had two gas pain attacks that lasted 3 hours each. Could the prevacid be causing these attcks? Also, ped suggested formula change to Alimentum. She's been on it for 3 weeks now. Could the formula be causing these gas attacks? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I don't know if prevacid would be causing the gas pains or not. How long has she been on the prevacid? Sometimes the formula could cause it. I know that a lot of people on this site use alimentum but others use a different brand I think it's the enfamil brand. Sorry I don't have knowledge on this but I do know that we deal with gas pains a lot. We have to use maalox and levison drops for it. I'm sure someone will let you know more about formulas and prevacid. Good luck

Thanks. She's been on Prevacid for 10 days and just started with the gas pains two days ago. Ped recommended going back to Similac Sensitive formula since she does not think this is a milk protein allergy.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
You could try Nutramigen. It has the same benefits as Alimentum but some kiddos do better on one than the other. My Katie didn't have a milk protein allergy but did immensly better on the Nutramigen than a regular formulas.

My 9 month old has been on nutramigen since he was 4 months and it has been great for him. I dont have any experience with alimentum but I have had 2 kids on nutramigen and no problems with either of them. I am finding it hard to figure out the right medications and combinations of medications myself. Hang in there- it will get better.
