still maalox eventhough on meds?
Hey everyone! I think that Kody is just getting over a bug right now because he's doing much better today. We're having to give him maalox more often it seems. He's also been congested and clearing his throat more. I also noticed that he's really snoring. He was doing this before this bug. He's on axid 2.2ml 2x a day. We still have to use maalox quite a bit though especially at night time before this yucky bug hit him. So my question is should we still need to be using the maalox so much if technically the meds are working? I know he's getting over something right now but he did this before he didn't feel good. Should I even try to get his meds switched to something else if he's still having problems at night or laying down? Or is it just the norm to not get the total relief for reflux when sleeping and eating?

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
I have always had to use mylanta (same as maalox) quite a bit for Katie especially at night. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would wait it out a bit. It really does take a long time for their stomachs to get back to normal after a bug.

If after everything is normal he is still in pain with meds and the maalox you may want to talk to your doc about switching meds.

I have always asked this question but for Katie sometimes the mylanta was the soothing that she needed. Now she doesn't need it as much.

It's good to know that it's probably the norm. It does make him feel better but not for very long. This antibx and bug he had is really killing us. He was doing so well and now it's not so well right now. Hopefully since I stopped the antibiotics everything will start clearing up for him. I'm just wanting relief for him. I feel so bad with him moaning at night time and so fussy during the day.

It is really so hard. It is hard for these little ones. You can give him the maalox whenever he is in pain. I would really use it just until he gets over this hump.

Are you using probiotics. Katie has done super with them. Maybe it would help.

You can use other over the counter meds for him too, maybe something for the gas.
