Feeding question re: Nathan
Hello all,

Just wanted some feedback regarding my little man Nate. He is taking Nutram., has been since day 7. The thing is, he seems to be a very fussy guy. he is colicky for one, has some rectal stenosis and reflux. however, when he feeds, he usually wants off the bottle after a few minutes and fusses quite a bit. He is kicking his legs and looks uncomfortable. Then I put him back on a bit later (5-10 min.) and he'll eat almost the rest for a total of almost 4 oz.

Lately he's been fussing more, usually during or after feeds, and now he's hardly eating at night, and less during the day. He has a LOT of gas ALL the time and I know this may make him uncomfortable, but my intuition says it has something to do with feeds, but I can't figure it out.

We tried Neocate, but he did not tolerate it at all (neither does Jazz).

Any ideas as to what is going on? We use the Dr. Brown air vent bottles and he is almost 4 months and he's always sticking his hands in his mouth and eating them.

Thanks!

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
that sounds like pretty classic reflux pain. fussy, chewing hands, etc...what dose of PPI or H2 is he on?

You'd think I'd recognize that by now right???? It's just so different from Jazzy problems. We tried Zantac, 0.3mls twice a day, but it didn't do much.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Yeah, I'd say he needs meds or you might try alimentum. You know some do well on one and don't the other. It's so trial and error.

Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
audrey did that a lot, i always figured it had something to do with the constipation issue. eating stimulates the digestive system which can be uncomfortable. it was so much so i thought she had reflux too because she would fuss at breast or bottle, and arch back. i wrapped her in a blanket so she would be snuggeled rather then able to get her hands at the bottle and she did a lot better. she also passed gas easier, i guess the force was more directed since she wasn't flopping all over and fussing. the hand chewing could be teething. but hey given history you could always try mylanta which helps with gas too.
Check with your
doctor first!
