I don't know if you have read my post probe results-scared. I want to continue to check more into food allergies as well. He has been on Elcare for 7 weeks now. Things seem much better (although the probe results look horrible). I would have hated to see how many times he refluxed 2 months ago as his projectile vomiting is much better and he is growing better on Elecare. I thought he was much better. Any advice? They are doing biopsies on my son's scope on Wed. Would this show food allergies, EE since he is on elecare? I don't know know what else to do. The reason I also feel stongly that food allergies is at least a small culprit is because my oldest son had severe food allergies. He did fine on breast milk and alimentum but at 1 year old when beginning more foods, he began to get very sick. He was on 12 antibiotics in 7 months. He was vomiting as well. They wanted to put in tubes in his ears but I made them skin prick and blood allergy test him first. I felt like if I could stop the runny nose we could stop ear infections. Well he skinned prick positive to malt, oats, yeast, grapes, tomatoes, rice, eggs, dairy, green beans. His blood test didn't show these but showed the dairy and a few others. He whelped up on his skin prick. All these foods were eliminated totally until now age 5 and he was retested. He is only mildly allergic now to a few beans and yeast but highly allergic to shellfish. After eliminating all these foods, my son's problems were solved! He has been on about 3 antibiotics in the past 4 years! No more zyrtec or singulair either in the past 3 years! My two year old has no allergies. But with my son's history of food allergies and my babies severe GERD I want to make sure I do everything I can to leave no stone unturned. Any advice? I know things are very inaccurate for babies. I was wondering if there was anything they could do though while they were scoping him on Wed. Thanks!!

I think you are very wise to consider food allergies/ee, esp. in light of your older son's history. As far as the scope being accurate for ee - it very well may not show if he has ee because he has been on the Elecare for 7 weeks. My son had 70 eos. on his last scope. We are going to start a diet of nothing but Neocate for 5-6 weeks, then rescope. They expect his level (of eos.) to be way down or 0. So, your son has already been "treated" for ee. If I were you, I would just be on the lookout for ee in the future when he starts on a more varied diet. How old is he? If he is still very young, keeping him on the elemental formula for a year or so couldn't hurt. Don't be in a hurry to introduce things that are very allergenic such as milk, wheat, nuts, fish, eggs. Am I suppose to say - be sure to clear this with your pediatrican? (disclaimer) Are you dealing with a Children's Hospital or specialist that is very knowledgable about eos. disorders/allergies? If not, I would look for one. All the best, Ellen

Thanks Ellen! We are dealing with Cincinatti Children's so they are very familiar with eos. If it is food allergies or ee shouldn't things be much better on Elecare?I thought he was doing much better but his probe showed 202 episodes of reflux 98 full esophagus episodes. That is huge! But I still can't shake that my older son has such a huge food allergy issue. So do you think with that many episodes of reflux, it could still be eos disorder or allergy related since he is already on Elecare? Dr. Ajay Kaul is doing his scope-He is suppose to be great. Dr. Pintiuk is his GI but I don't know much about him-He's still young. Dr. P even mentioned a fundo after seeing his probe results but I think that's crazy and will not even consider it unless they can prove with these scopes that he has some life threatening issues. I just want to be as informed as possible about turning over every stone just in case they mention something drastic to me after the scopes. Thanks Ellen! I hope the rescope goes great and that they will find "Many" foods that your son can tolerate as they begin working them back in. I know that has got to be a scary feeling to wonder if your son will ever be able to eat and how many foods.

Hi again. Sounds to me like the Elecare would have made a big difference if it were just allergy/ee. It could very well be severe reflux. Have you ruled out anitomical (sp.) defects? I'm sure you probably have, since you are going through a good hospital. Sounds like you are in good hands. Keep us posted & thanks for the kind words. Today we start with no foods & I'm really stressed. El
