Starting's never easy is it?!
Our baby Samantha is 7.5 months old and is soooo ready to eat solids, but any solids aggrivate the heck out of her reflux :( The same thing happened with Maia and she couldn't eat solids until 13 months as a result. Samantha is really just breastfeeding right now but she wants to eat solid food so bad. She grabs at our food all the time. I think that she would sleep so much better if she could eat some solid food in the evenings too, but of course solid food=projectile vomit. She is mostly silent refluxing now if she just breastfeeds, though. She's on 15 mg. Prevacid once a day (evenings). Any advice other than just waiting it out for another 5-6 months?

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Could you mix some expressed BM with a little cereal?

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
When are you doing solids? I always introduced stuff in the am in case it bothered wouldn't affect her sleep. Have you tried cereal? If rice bothers her, try oatmeal. Others have gone as far as to do cream of wheat or something like that. If you do veggies, I'd try sweet potatoes first.

Also ask the dr if you can split her meds between am and pm. It might help her keep meds in her throughout the day.

I haven't tried cereal yet since it caused us so many issues with Maia. I will try a little tomorrow morning. I almost tried it tonight but my mom talked me out of it in case it caused problems and made Samantha's sleep even worse. I was doing solids in the morning and at night a few weeks ago and her reflux got SO bad. The problems went away when we stopped the solids, though.

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Are allergies an issue? I know that A's reflux is worse when she was eating allergic foods. Are you doing a specific diet? If you have eliminated any foods make sure those aren't in the cereal. KWIM? We did carrots first but that is because Adriane is allergic to potatoes, including sweet potatoes. Carrots are one of three foods she can eat right now so I figure it must be pretty easy on her. Not sure if that is true for everyone though. I do agree about feeding her in the AM. Then when you know that she can tolerate it then maybe start introducing it in the PM. Also, the split dosage for the meds is a great idea or you could try giving a little bit of maalox right before feeding.

We ended up trying the rice cereal last night and the poor baby was literally grabbing the spoon out of my hand and shoveling it into her mouth. She is SO ready for solids. No, I don't think that she has allergies. She has never reacted to anything in my diet so I really think that this is just straight reflux, inherited from me unfortunately. Last night she slept better than usual. I think she only woke to eat like 3 or 4 times and she wasn't as restless as usual. DH said that she spit up a lot this morning, though, which is unusual for her lately. I don't know if I can split her meds because she takes one Prevacid solutab a day and I'm not sure how to split it w/o breaking it up.
Check with your
doctor first!
