stiff as a board
Kody has been not wanting to bend a lot lately. He's as stiff as a board and if we try to make him relax and sit he cries about it. Does anyone else have experiences with this? Is it a sign of his reflux? He also has been doing the arching thing after meals more frequently so I don't know if the axid is working as well as it should be. Should he still be having those bad feedings if the meds are working or do some of you still have that happening? Any insights? Thanks in advance!!

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Hmmm. I am not sure about the stiff as a board problem. It could be that he is in a lot of pain from the reflux and gas. This could make him stiff and uncomfortable. I would definitely talk to the doctor because either way, meds or something else, he is not feeling good.

If the meds are working he should definitely start to feel more comfortable and in less pain. It can take from 2 weeks to a month to see the positive affects from the medicine.

I always found Mylanta to be very helpful for immediate pain. You can ask your doctor about Carafate which is like a super Mylanta. If he has any irritation in his tummy or esoph. it could help.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Poor fella and mommy. I'm with Julie, I bet it just hurts to move. I'd call the dr and beg to get into the GI. I would make any more big changes this soon. Sorry :(

Maia would do the arching/stiffness thing as an infant too. It seemed to dissipate some once we had her on the correct meds for her, although she does have other muscle issues now (hypotonia).

Is he stiff all the time or just after feeding? Has he seen a physical therapist? Arching is common in babies with reflux but if a child is 'stiff' alot that can be a sign of high muscle tone, which often benefits from physical therapy. I don't want to worry you...but wanted to be honest. My kids have been in therapies from infancy and I actually am an infant development specialist by profession (although living it in my personal life changed my perspective on it!)

He's not all the time stiff just mostly after feeding. How does high muscle tone affect him? He hasn't seen a physical therapist because he just really started doing it more lately. He does do the arching thing as he's straightening his body likke a board so I just assumed it was something making him hurt. gotta go! My lo is awake
Check with your
doctor first!
