How did you get your infant to take Zantac?
My daughter Isabella is 3 weeks old and was diagnosed with severe reflux at one week old. We ordered the Amby Bed and hope that will help her sleep better. Right now we are dealing with the severe congestion, gagging, crying whenever laid down, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, vomit coming out of her nose etc. We are using a humidifier, doing our best to keep her elevated to 30 degrees, wearing her in a Moby wrap as much as possible, saline and suction, and constant vacuuming and dusting in case allergies are triggering it. She has Zantac but my lovely little one keeps spitting it out. I have tried blowing on her face to make her swallow it, does anyone have any tricks? She does to the specialist on the 29th and in the meantime what can be done? I appreciate any and all feedback. My oldest was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 5 when she had her tonsils and adenoids removed. It is so painful to see my baby in so much pain all the time. :(

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
I used to use a syringe to shoot it into Isobel's cheek pocket and then put (shove) a paci in her mouth then a bottle. At first I went straight to bottle, but the gross taste on the nipple would make her refuse it after a few sips. We kept a paci specifically for Zantac doses. HTH

Shawna: First time Mom to Mallory (10/07/08). Silent reflux diagnosed at 2 months. Alimentum formula fed. Trial of Losec (minimal effect). Now Prevacid 1x/day plus Zantac 2x/day.
We actually put the Zantac in a bottle with just enough formula to disguise the taste - about 1.5-2oz. This works really well for us as you can give Zantac with food.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Our ped put Mags on the zantac efferdose tabs for that reason. They also don't have to be upped as often due to weight gain.

As far as giving the meds though, put it in a dropper just a little at a time and put it between her cheek and gum really far back.

We had the same problem, my son hated it! We now make a seperate bottle and mix it with 1oz just to make sure he is getting it, and he has no idea.

Strong, Beautiful, daughter who is thriving beyond imagination and a healthy, happy 3 year old.
We had an easier time with Axid and far less side effects. We used a syringe and put it as far back in cheek pocket as possible.
Check with your
doctor first!
