side effects experiences w/prevacid
Has anyone had their baby have any side effects with prevacid? We started it a couple days ago and my son has started having really runny stools. His stools are never firm it seems anyway but I didn't want it to be worse. He also started having terrible smelly gas yesterday and that was starting to subside because I went on a df diet. Could this be from the prevacid? Anyone with experiences let me know.

Debbie, Mom to:
Derek,10/29/02 GERD,Can't have any legumes(soy, being the worse), allergic to PN/Tree Nuts, struggled to gain weight for years, my "picky" eater,Takes Zegerid. Johnny, 12/05/99 GERD, managed by diet, allergic to cashews/pistachios.
My 6yr old gets awful runny diarrhea from Prevacid. We tried it when he was two, and again just last month, same thing. My Father was on it, also and had runny stools from it, but some people have no side effects, so it seems you have to find the PPI that works best for you. My son ended up on Generic Omeprazole(Prilosec), but there is many to try, ask for another, and be firm.

momma of 2 refluxers
I came on this site to post the exact same question. My 11 week old has now been on Prevacid for 3 weeks and is now having really runny stools also. I was going to call the doctor on Monday. But I'm glad to know that is exactly what is causing it.

I've heard some kids react to the lactose in the Solutabs, but my son can have dairy now, and still got diarrhea from Prevacid when we tried it again, so for him, it just was a side effect. It took me a while to convince the doc that though...

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Changes to stool is very common with PPI's. Our dd had the constipation. Remember that acid is needed to actually fully break down food and we're limiting the amount of production, so something's bound to go wonky. As long as it's not liquid explosions, maybe try adding probiotics to help things along. I'll take runny stools over screaming any day!

If there is a lactose intolerance question or MSPI or MPI, there are alternatives to the tabs of prevacid.

Thank you
I think that I'll try some probiotics. We were on prilosec and it didn't work for him. He's been having some awful symptoms last night and today so I'm hoping that the prevacid will start working soon for him. I think he got runny stools from the prilosec too but it doesn't seem to bother him too much just his reflux is. Maybe the gi will have some answers for us in a couple weeks. Just counting down the days and hopefully able to survive. My lo has decided that sleep hasn't been important today or last night.
