Thanks for the advice and instructions
I've never been good at this forum thing... so, we went to the ped. last night and he gave us prevacid... has it taken a few days to really kick in for others?

It can take up to 2 weeks to see the complete success. but you can see results earlier. Glad you got on a better med. PPIs are soo much better.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Hi! Yes the forum takes some getting used to :)

Actually, I hate to say this but for many, prevacid takes a couple weeks or more to fully take effect. And remember to give it on an empty stomach. Did the doc give the baby two doses a day? It usually works best if it's broken bc babies metabolize faster than adults. Also remember the spitting up may not go away completely, the prevacid is supposed to cut out the acid so the spit up won't be painful :) Good luck to you and Toby.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I didnt know that prevacid was suppose to be given on an empty stomach. Neither the doc nor the pharmacist said anything. I have alway given in right before the bottle. I guess I better change that.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
nobody ever told me either. it wasn't until I got on this forum when Katie was three that I found out. i don't know why the peds don't know this.
Check with your
doctor first!
