New MOM--Toby's mom
THIS WAS ADDED TO A POST DOWN THE PAGE-I THINK WE MISSED IT BECAUSE IT WASN'T A NEW POST.

Toby's mom, when you post a ?, click the "new topic" link at the top right of the page :)

Hi all- I have an 18 week old that has been on Zantac since he was about 6 weeks old... it worked for awhile, but now I think it isn't- despite increasing in dosing. Toby doesn't sleep well at night (frequent waking) spits up frequently, hours after feedings (he is exclusively breast fed) arches, and certainly prefers to "stand" or be upright. He does not enjoy laying down on his back or his tummy, and I have noticed lately that when I do put him down on his tummy- he often wet burps- an audible burp followed by spit up. Toby also recently had the flu, and now this week is draining from his eye and nose... anyone else experiencing cold/flu like symptoms that turned out to really be a reflux issue?

Could it be allergies? In our area, the allergies are already awful. Also, any stresses can cause a flare in reflux. I would take him in and talk to the doc about tests and possibly switching to prevacid. How much has his zantac been increased to? Maybe it still isn't enough.

Sorry, I'm hurrying and just kindof throwing stuff out there :)

momma of 2 refluxers
My first child was able to handle zantac and I was able to keep breastfeeding her. However my new baby boy (2 months) had to be moved to Prevacid (acid blocker) and I had to stop breastfeeding (doctor ordered). We have to thicken bottles now for him. I never lay my son down past a 30 degree angle because it brings to much discomfort. A swing or infant seat works great. My boy has a lot of stuffiness which is from the reflux. He also has a lot of eye drainage but that is from tear ducts that are not mature. In order to stop the drainage I have to massage the tear duct with my pinky after every diaper change . But he has had eye drainage from the day he was born.
Check with your
doctor first!
