how to survive until gi appt. aaaahhhhh
Hi everyone! I appreciate all the info and help I have received. Currently my son is on prilosec and it doesn't seem to be making him comfortable anymore. About 6 weeks ago our ped had us give him 1ml 2x's a day instead one time a day. It didn.t help so she said to go to gi but then we thought it was worse due to illness so we cancelled the appt. Big mistake but hindsights 20/20. Anyway we are miserable in our house. We already keep him upright almost all the time, he breastfeeds and sometimes form, I even went df in my diet. He doesn't sleep. He only eats a little bit and then is uncomfortable for the rest of the time. He also is extremely gassy and I can't figure out why. How can I survive the next 3 weeks like this because I think our ped doesn't know what the next step is. He is losing his breath a lot, coughing, gagging and fussy alot of the time. I don't know what else to do. I feel like crying everyday and somedays I do. I would just love to get more than an 1 hour sleep at a time because hat makes the day even worse. Any help or suggestions would be great. I feel like we've done everything including the rice thing and that doesn't help. He has so many wet juicy burps that come up from just a little bit of food poor guy. HELP!!! Thanks in advance. I hate to be whining but I am. He also has been spitting his saliva out of his mouth what's that about?

sorry forgot to mention that his reflux is silent. We hear it going up and down all the time but don't usuallyn see it. So of course we get all the family that doesn't understand why we worry because it least it stays in.

Mother of 4 children. 3 girls, youngest baby boy 30/08/08. Dx silent reflux at 3 months. On Gaviscon and just trying zantac and domperidone. Thought Isaac was finished with reflux at 5 months, had a couple of weeks free it then came back with a vengeance...........
Is there no way you could get an earlier app. Really push them to see him earlier. Good luck.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
HUGS! If you can, have your ped's office call the GE to see if you can get in a little earlier. On the elimination diet, have you also cut out soy? It's in just about everything.

Rice can be so bad too for them...oatmeal (provided no allergies) can help a little. Silent reflux can also be worse - instead of their esophagus getting the acid once and then out, it's up AND back down.

While you wait, can you ask the ped about using Maalox or Mylanta? I can't recall if you were the one that the MD said no way. We used 2 ml's up to 4 x's a day at 7 weeks old, adn went up as her weight went up. As for spittin gout his saliva - it hurts, so they find ways to get rid of it.

Cry away mama - we've all wailed right along with them at times. Sometimes it's the only way to let the frustration out, even if it isn't productive.

sleep tight
Hey mama, I totally understand your situation as Im in the middle of it myself. My son is 12 weeks old and we havent even had his GI because the Dr. wants to wait (im going crazy) here is a little trick for sleeping and soothing that has helped for us, swaddle (tight), our son sleeps in a swing (one that is a cradle swing rocking side to side not back and forth) a sound machine called a sleep tight AND another blanket over the top of him to help keep his pacifier in his mouth (not to high to cover his mouth but just enough)Good Luck doing these things has given me a few extra hours of rest. hugs...

Thank you everyone for the input and letting me vent. I asked the gi if that was the earliest and they said yes. We don't even get to see the actual doctor, we have to see a Nurse practitioner. The doctors wouldn't be able to see him until sometime in June they said. I call the ped all the time it seems so they must think I'm this paranoid mom. I did the same thing with my daughter and it turned out my instinct was right though she has a rare disease called hirschsprungs. They would never have found it if I didn't keep pushing. I just can't figure out what is causing him so much gas and runny stools too as well as all the reflux. I will try the swaddling thing. Maybe we can get more sleep that way. He's been a burping and tooting machine today. He eats only a little bit and he has problems afterwards. It's like he's allergic to my milk or something.

Debbie, Mom to:
Derek,10/29/02 GERD,Can't have any legumes(soy, being the worse), allergic to PN/Tree Nuts, struggled to gain weight for years, my "picky" eater,Takes Zegerid. Johnny, 12/05/99 GERD, managed by diet, allergic to cashews/pistachios.
I, also think soy would be the next thing to eliminate in both your diets. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your help. I always feel like I'm on the verge of going crazy and then I get on here and feel better. Well we had a better night last night and I think its because we gave him his prilosec on an empty stomach. We also decided to call the ped. They decided to switch him to prevacid and they are going to call the gi for us to see if they can get us in earlier. We're glad to be trying a new med because I felt that the prevacid was to unstable and it was hard to get it down him since its so nasty. I think getting more than an hour of sleep at a time helped me feel better. It feels like I got so much sleep but only probably got a total of 3-4 hrs lol. Thanks again!

oops
oops I meant to say prilosec was to unstable. I guess the sleep deprivation is catching up with me.
Check with your
doctor first!
