Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I know most of you that really know me, read my whines and rants on facebook now. I just thought I'd post for those that aren't there. I need all the sympathy (lol) and help I can get.

Mags has been diagnosed with wheat, soy, and almond allergies. The reaction was mild but I've read and been told by some that that doesn't necessarily mean I can "go easy with it".

I'm OVERWHELMED to say the least. I'm just trying to take it one step at a time and get it "in my head" that she has to cut out stuff.

Here's one issue I'm having. We started her on zyrtec and nasonex. While I'm doing these trial food eliminations for the next few weeks, how will I know what the meds are doing and what the food elim. is doing? thanks for any help y'all can give me :)

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
I know that we talk on FB more now but I wanted to express my empathy for you. I know what it is like and we are having some of th same issues with A. She is on two daily meds and sometimes add Benadryl to that. So, how do I know that it is the meds keeping the reactions to a minimum or at bay and not that she has outgrown it or something. I don't have any answers for you, sorry. I just wanted to tell you that we are in the same boat. A is limited to carrots, turkey and blueberries. She had a slight reaction to turkey in her tests but not as much as beef, chicken and pork so we decided to try turkey. They have to have something! I hope that someone else has some answers for you. -Amanda

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Just take it one day at a time. The good thing about wheat is that there are other alternatives in the bread family that she isn't allergic to like oats etc. Soy as you know from what was suspected MSPI is in everything so just read labels carefully. Did they tell you to avoid all nuts or just almonds? I can't remember which nuts are crossover in the nut family. You may want to check out It has been a lifesaver with the allergies. Also, just remember that since she has a mild allergy she may outgrow them before the age of 5 so try not to stress over something you can't control. Also, the Zyrtec makes my son really drowsy so we give it before bed. And you may want to ask for Veramyst instead of Nasonex. It is a much finer mist and so it doesn't seem to bother my boys as much. And if the Zyrtec doesn't work you can always step up to Singulair. It helped us the most here.

thanks ladies :) Amanda, I sent you a friend request on fb. I didn't realize who you were there, lol. I can't put faces together with those tiny pics.

I have done some shopping and Mags and I have already been experimenting.

I do feel blessed bc wheat is one "big" allergy that won't affect her as much. She's not a big bread eater. It will mostly affect her through pasta, cheerios, goldfish, and muffins. We made some muffins today. Next time I'm gonna add some fruit juice so they won't be so bland :)

As far as nuts, they didn't specify. One thing I didn't like about how our appt. was set up is that we didn't see the dr after the tests. We only saw the nurse and she wasn't very helpful. I don't think the almond was much of a reaction at all. I'm not focusing on it as much as the other two. We go back in 6wks so I will compile a list of ?? for him.

Mary, I can't believe Mags actually sat and let us do the nose spray last night. Now tonight she might fight bc she knows what it is now.

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
I am so sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers are with you that Maggie would feel better again soon. Please keep us posted and take good care of yourself.
