GI appt and need help to be prepared
My ds is 3mo and has silent reflux. We have been on prilosec for about 7 or 8 weeks now but I think a low dose because he got to his worst point about a week ago. We decided to up the dose ourselves because the ped had told us to go to the gi doctor. We have a 9 yr old daughter who went through terrible testing when she was an infant so it really scared us to be told to go to a gi. The only reason she wanted us to go to the gi was because we thought the meds weren't working again but he ended up being sick and then rotovirus. But then he just kept getting worse even after he was better however we had cancelled the gi appt already. Now we rescheduled and I'm really nervous that he'll be put through so many awful tests. I would like to know if any tests would be worth it if they want to do any? I know our daughter had a different rare condition that they wouldn't have found without all the tests they did but it was awful for all of us. I don't think I can go through that again. Do all GI doctors have to do tests or do most of them just try the meds to make our little ones feel better? I want to be informed and educated about my facts. I hope that they just will try a different med on him to help him since I'm not sure the prilosec he's on worries me that it could be unstable. Plus it's nasty stuff to give to him so some of it comes back out anyway. How does anyone get through these reflux episodes? We are so exhausted because he won't sleep in the day or at night. I would love to be able to sleep longer at night but he's so uncomfortable in the middle of the night. He goes to bed around 8:30 and wakes up sometime after midnight to eat and then he's uncomfortable all night and eats every 2 hours too. It's awful and many times my hubby and I have been so cranky with each other. We are doing maalox to help him through the rough spots which may help us make it to the april 15 appt. I just hope I don't go insane until then. I know Friday I was in tears and exhausted because that was the worst day he had. I'm sorry so long boy was that good to get off my chest and chat about all my woes to people that understand.

depending on the GI and his assessment of your dd tests may be ordered. these medicines are not usually well accepted for children under 1 (although perfectly safe, i've found) my best advice would be to do at least a week long journal on his feeding habits, his sleep schedual, his pooping/ peeing, when you think he is in pain, what he does when you think he is in pain (spit up/ vomit, arch, cry for hours ect...)what you do to alleviate the pain.

from what if seems like to me you really need to talk to the GI to find out what to do next and testing might be a good option. if prilosec and maloxx are not working you need their advice for a better combo.
