Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Insomnia? Could it be caused by meds?
Does anyone have experience with their kids having insomnia? Isaiah hasn't been able to fall asleep since Friday. He's up, not being able to sleep, until midnight or beyond. I am just about at wit's end...we've been through this before when he was little, but this is worse than ever. Any ideas? I was reading about insomnia and read that deficiencies in calcium, magnesium, and B-6 and 12 can cause insomnia. Aren't those three things that Prevacid can block absorption of? He's been off meds for about a month now and we aren't seeing reflux problems (praise God!) however now he's not sleeping. SIGH. I feel for you mommies with new babies and sleepless toddlers. It was so nice getting rest....I feel like a new mom all over again with the foggy, sleep deprived brain!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Yes, Prevacid blocks those. However, as he's been off for about a month, those should start absorbing from food again. Is he due for a growth spurt? I remember when I was a kid that just before a spurt, I couldn't sleep, then couldn't stop once the spurt started. Can you try a different bedtime routine? Maybe just a change could get him groggy enough to settle. Or just let him read in bed until he's tired enough. I don't know - just throwing some ideas around.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Could he be stressed about anything?

Yeah, I'd think that he should be doing *better* now without the Prevacid than worse, but it was interesting that those 3 things were specifically mentioned with insomnia. The growth spurt is a possibility...maybe he's about to hit one? That would be good. I have been letting him read...but then he'll read till so late that I wonder if it's a good thing or not! On the other hand, he was up the night before just as late *without* reading, so I guess I'd rather him at least be doing something instead of letting his mind run wild. As far as stress goes...right now I can't think of any stresses he's under! In fact, it's been an unusually quiet time for us. But you never know...right now he's saying that the only stress he's under is the not being able to sleep stress LOL.
