Hi :) Oldie with a ?
This is not a ? about reflux, but I thought that some of you might have experience with this. My 2yr old has hives. This is her second episode. The first was in 07 and as far as we know a reaction to augmentin. We have no idea what might have caused them this time. We're not using anything new, she hasn't eaten anything new, etc. the only thing is she just started "potty training" seriously yesterday. My hun thinks maybe it's stress. If you've dealt with hives, could potty stress cause this? I just don't think it would be this bad from a lil potty stress. We are following her lead. She was excited about pottying.

I'm gonna post a slide show of pics. I haven't done it in a while so I might mess up :)

IDK, could it be environmental. Like she got near someone's yard who had just used weed killer or some type of lawn fertilizer??????

Just trying to think of something besides what you mentioned.

Poor Mags!!!! ((((HUGS))))

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
Poor thing!! Nathan had all over hives a few weeks ago after running through some tall grass on a nearby uncleared lot. I have no idea what was in there that did it. He did seem to have some any bites too, so maybe that was part of it. I would treat the hives and try to keep her inside maybe a day or two, continuing with the potty training and see what happens. I would think if it was a contact with something outside, it shouldn't take long for them to get better. Let us know what happens. Did she eat anything new??

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Poor baby girl! That is making me itch! Stress can cause hives. The day I had a huge tryout I broke out like that and also when I met my dh's parents. I'm not kidding. Anyway, I would agree with Jessica that it could be from someone else's yard or something in the air. Is someone was spraying lawn treament or even new mulch or something. Have you given her Benadryl or anything? If they don't go away soon you might have to do a steriod to get the reaction down. I hope she gets better soon.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
I get them from extreme stress too. That said, the most likely culprit is environmental.

Thanks ladies :) She's never in anybody's yard but our own. We haven't visited anybody since last weekend. (not the one just past) Stress is a likely culprit, I guess. I just wouldn't have thought pottying would do this to her :( She was enjoying it, she didn't seem stressed. Idk...If she's still like this tomorrow, I'm gonna call the dr again.

She has an appt with an allergist Monday morning. She has had some questionable reactions, so...might as well talk to an expert :)

OK HOLD UP! If she got bit by a fire ant and was allergic, could that be it? I'm just guessing bc we have some piles in the back yard. This started on Monday and I was gone all afternoon Sunday. I don't think dh had her outside bc it was rainy, but I'll ask him.

I have broke out by stuff in a fire before also. Yes, if she was even outside anything on that wood is airborn as it burns. That is could be your culprit for sure. I hope she gets better.

Fire ants could possibly done that, they are nasty boogers.

Not to compare it to out dog but when my neighbors use a weed killer around the edges that border our fences she breaks out and looses her fur badly. She has sensitive skin. So I'd ask them just to be sure. But I bet it could have been the ants. :-(

Thanks Jess ;) They are gone this morning. The pic of her arm that has her face in it, I was showing how red her lil hand is. It's normal this morning.

Also the one of her foot, that's where I was thinking she might have gotten bit. I don't know. It's just a thought.

What about her pullups or undies? You said you just started potty training... are those new to her? Maybe its a contact reaction? Its looks like its caused by something internal to me..by the way they are spread out and not localized around a certain area. Did you try Benedryl?

Thanks Everybody :)

Maria, I am keeping the panty thing in mind. I mentioned it to her ped and he said it's possible. I didn't get the pullups till after this started but the panties were new.

The ped told me to rub the panty edge on another part of her body and see if it reacted after a lil while. I'm not even sure that's an accurate test. It didn't react...but I don't know. I just can't wait to talk to the allergist.

Check with your
doctor first!
