baby offically diagnosed
well I guess my last baby is gonna have problems too:( hes 5 going on 6 weeks old (on wendsday ) The doc already had me giving him mylanta but now hes on sol-u-tabs as well (the 15 milligram dose) pluss fruit juice to help with constipation issues. How effective is this that young??? My other gerd baby was on more meds so im unsure how this will do on its own. He also wont quit screaming on his back so he sleeps in his car seat witch i really hate cause he cant stretch out as well but at least he sleeps some now. do any of yall's ger babys insist on being help constantly?? my son stays really tensed up unless im holding him. you can actually watch him loosen his muscles up but he still thrashes about a good bit:( im hopeing the medicine helps it really hurts me that hes in pain and i cant make it all better when he needs me to my other severe case i was just so greatfull he survived and hes doing great now but his treatment was more aggressive from the onset so im not used to the waiting game either how do yall cope??? sorry so long sleep deprived and as usual holding a baby hopeing itll get better soon.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Hi there. I know how you feel. It is so incredibly hard. You have to know that it will get better. You will sleep again and your little one will feel better.

Do you have him on Nutramigen or Alimentum? That made the difference for Katie - including the constipation. Could it be that the rice is irritating his stomach?

The prevacid should help just make sure you give it 30 minutes before a feed.

My Katie could only sleep on her stomach (ask doc about that) the back was too painful. She often slept in a vibrating bouncy - they can stretch out more there than the car seat.

She needed white noise. At first I put her on the floor next to the oven fan and put it on high. Then I bought a white noise machine. I don't know why but that helped a ton.

I know what you mean about the juices. MY doc had Katie on pear juice for constipation but I think that made her tummy worse. THe Nutramigen took care of the const. so I didn't have to use the juice anymore.

We found mylanta to be a life saver for pain.

Hang in there.

oh dear do i feel for you. I've so been there... and in some ways even though my son is 14 months now, I'm still there. Yes my baby insisted on being held constantly. Not only because of his GERD did he wanna be held in the upright position, but also when babies are that young, they movement of mommy holding them or the closeness of her is a must. So in the early days, I LIVED for my sons Snugli device. I carried him every where I went. This helped keep him upright AND soothe him to sleep so I could get some things done. Also, the prevacid should really help. What kind of formula do you have your lil one on, or are you nursing? I tried breastmilk and TONS of formula before i finally discovered how amazing Similac Alimentum worked. It's already "pre digested" so its SOOOO much easier on your little ones tummy. Basically the special formula and medication were lifesavers for me. Oh and the snugli. Oh and as far as her constipation goes.. your doc recommended fruit juice? Well, i guess that would work, i wont argue with the doc but it jsut seems like that would be so hard on a little 5 week olds tummy, espcially one who has reflux. Juice aggravates reflux. My son also could not have a BM on his own, so my doc recommend the medication Lactulose. It's just a sugar substance that adds water to the babies system to make it easier to pass a BM. It worked wonders. Just a thought! I wish the best for you!

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
My little one had to be held all the time too-for quite some time. I feel for you. Those days in the beginning-it seemed like they would never get any better. I used to wake up and put on the Bjorn and have to walk around the house all day. He liked it when I went up and down the aerobic step and did squats and lunges. I even would go to the bathroom with him in it. He would rest in it, but I could tell he was still in pain. It was awful. It didn't really start to improve for him until about four months, after being on the prevacid for a couple weeks. We also used the Mylanta for pain and still do if he has a flare up. He is eleven months tomorrow and he still refluxes all the time. We still have to thicken his formula, but it seems to be under control. He is a much happier baby and we are very grateful. Hang in there. As far as sleep goes, Nicholas is still not going through the night, but it is down to 1-2 times. My dh and I alternate nights. That's been huge!!! Good luck!!

Both of my refluxers also did better on their stomachs for sleep. We tried the tucker sling, but he wanted to move too much. With both I used a motion sensor monitor as having them on their stomachs is frowned upon by so many. I was up front with my doctora about it and although our pedi wasn't on board, my son's pulmo and GI were both ok with it.

omg yes he is sleeping on his tummy some today and the formula hes on is regular enfamil ill ask the doc if i need to switch.. he did better today less screaming fits but the doc only has him taking the tab once a day he told me to give him a half tea spoon of the mylanta but i think it aggrivated his constipation problem:/ i also didnt know there was a medicine for that ill ask when he goes back in 2 weeks with my other 2 refluxers aj we just had to add cereal to his formula but that was also the same pediatrition that almost killed my now 4 yr old with my 4 yr old he was on prevacid zyrtech and he had enfamil ar we tried alementium with him and he had diarreah so bad he was put in the hospital from it once again bad pediatrition the pediatrition im useing this time seems to be listening at least and paying close attention but i kinda wonder y hed prescribe juice if it makes the reflux worse and his bowels are still rather pasty but at least he doesnt scream now and he can sleep during a bm now instead of the hr long fit my lovely neighbor also gave me a portable baby swing with 8 speed settings and he seemed to like that any other ideas of things to try??? and i dont have a baby sling yet but ill definatly have to get one i actually threw my back out just from moveing him in the carseat around (i was disabled during the pregnancy and on bed rest for 6 months of it so my back needs to be built back up) also what all classifies as white noise hmm ill have to look into that sorry so long again lol im just so greatfull for the imput from other moms going through this im kinda alone here and hubby is now on grave yard shift so im on my own dealing with this pretty much 24/7
