problems with solids
My 6 month old baby seems to be getting better thank God, he takes his milk better not perfect but better. My question is about introducing solids, every time I try he is so sick. Its so strange because he doesn't even swallow anything, the food just touches his lips and he throws up. He is a silent refluxer. What does this mean.??????? .Does it mean he is not ready for solids or is this something reflux babys go through when 1st start solids. Not sure if I should wait or press on. Does anyone think he is making him self throw up ? Please lots of info needed. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou..

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
he's awfully young for an oral aversion that bad. My son can do it when the food touches his lips...sometimes when he sees the spoon at all, but he's 17 months. I would start with cereal mixed with his formula very very thin..like soup...then introduce it with the spoon...if that makes him sick let him play with the spoon with nothing on it. hopefully it's a little stage. Honestly he's very young and you can wait a little before reintroducing, but I would definitely start getting him more comfortable with the spoon. Lastly...what are you feeding him? It might be that he is swallowing soome and it's hurting him...allergy, etc...

Thanks Zacks Mum............... He def didn't eat any. It was more of a reaction. I was so happy that I thought we was on the right road and was gutted when he was sick, now I have calmed down I was thinking........ the times that I have tried him with solids is when he is taking his milk well so maybe he is just not used to a full tummy. He can refuse his bottle and his ped has said that he has reflux but also behavioral, this is what freaked me out when I thought he could be making him self sick. He doeas like to put his hand in his mouth often. What do the pager people think of this........... Thanks Julie

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I also say let him start to play with the spoon, then after he seems comfortable with that, cover the floor and let him play with some food with it. We started with sweet potatoes and my dd loved them, and it seems a lot of kids do okay with them. I hope it's not aversion that young, but if you're still concerned, talk to the ped, especially if the bottle refusal continues. JMO

my son shoves his fists down his throat daily....it sucks...it's horrible to watch and it's heartwrenching. I have no advice...only that you are not alone. We don't know why he does it...but after he throws up he's fine. We arent, but he is.

update
Thanks so much its nice to know you are not alone. Isaac is in hospital he vomited until his vomit turned bright yellow, he has stopped being sick now but diarreha has started. Maybe its a tummy bug I heard reflux babys get hit harder with tummy bugs. It just seems strange that this has happened 3 times when we tried solids. We are all on a continuous wild goose chase with this awful reflux.........

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
I hope that he's doing better. We had NO luck starting solids at 6 months. Lots of vomiting and screaming. We tried again at 7 months with marginally better results and again at 8 months with much better luck. I hope it was *just* a tummy bug, but it does seem to take refluxers a lot longer than non-refluxers to get onto solids. Good luck!
