tooth decay
I noticed that one of Jasmine's front teeth has some tooth decay already. I am so upset because we always brush, she doesn't eat sugar and she does have milk before be, but usually not right before she falls asleep. There is at least a half hour between milk and when she fall asleep. I hope this doesn't mean that she's refluxing again....Do you think all of this excess acid would have caused this??? As if she doesn't have enough problems already!

Acid can cause wear on the teeth. My dentist did tell me that some kids just have teeth that tend to stain easily. Have you been doing fluoride to strengthen the enamel? I also used to have the girls (my refluxers) rinse their mouths with water if the refluxed... just to get the acid off the teeth. The girls don't have anything after they brush their teeth at night aside from water. That has also cut down on the staining. Has she been to the dentist yet? Maybe the next time you go she could sit on your lap and the dentist could just take a quick peek at her teeth too?

They also told me that wear from acid usually shows up on the molars first. They suggested the sealants for the girls when they are old enough...

Thanks Jen. I'll have to take her in for a check up...She will go nuts though. She hates people touching her teeth/mouth...:-(

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
I'm a little late but Morgan has some problems with her teeth and cavities. She brushes well twice a day, does listerine rinse twice a day and hardly ate sugar. The dentist said that acid reflux can weaken it and so can some antibx. He also said that some kids have a problem with it no matter how diligent you are . She has had around 5 or 6 cavities and they are all molars. She has what looks like calcium deposits on her teeth and he said that makes them more susceptible to cavities and that is either from meds or heredity. My dh's side has those, that as bad as hers but still.
