Hates Elecare
Sorry to have so many questions ladies. We tried our Elecare for the first time this morning. He won't have anything to do with it. I know I could gradually mix in alimentum RTF but to me this just prolongs his suffering. I saw they made vanilla flavoring but it said over 1 year old and the doc gave me unflavored. What to do? Will he just get over it when he gets hungry enough? Very stressful. Thanks!

You should ask your doc but, my GI said mix one packet of splenda per 4 ounces. He also said we could mix half unflavored and half vanilla (no splenda). My girl is 5 months. HTH

The unflavored stuff is normally used for tube feeding children. It will taste pretty bad. I'd go ahead and use the flavored stuff. from what I've heard, even the vanilla is not that great tasting. If you start young it is easier. I know someone whose DD took Alimentum orally for 2 full years without complaint....*GAG GAG* That's like vomit flavoring..LOL

Yeah, the vanilla is gross too- it smells like horrible, cheap potpourri!

How do you mix the vanilla then b/c the directions are for 30 calories (kids over 1 year old.) I tried the splenda with very little luck. It was hard enough as it is to get him to eat but now he hates the formula too.

All I can tell you is my doc said half and half. Are you sure the scoop is 30 cal or are the mixing instructions for 30 cal.? I'll go look - I'm curious now.

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
The vanilla tastes MUCH better. To mix it to cal just do 1 scoop per 2 ounces of water. Katie cannot do the cal an oz so we pack the scoop to 24-26 cal an oz. ( i have a food scale and it is 2 cal a gram).
Check with your
doctor first!
