Delaying solids until after 8 months.
We started solids at 6 months. He eats stage 1 fruits and veggies. I am thinking that I want to stop the solids because they seem to cause gas, which is just another discomfort to add to the list. We spoon feed rice cereal with probiotics so that he can keep the skill of spoon feeding. Anyone else delay solids past 8 months? I might wait until he is 1 year then try again.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I didn't go through this personally, but I actually know a mom who had to delay solids for much longer due to allergies/reflux. I think it'd be a great idea until you find a doctor that will take you seriously. Of course, I'm not a dr, but sometimes the solids can make matters worse. Especially when the whole picture hasn't been figured out.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
I would. Until you find a good doc, remove anything that may be causing pain. Keep a journal.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
I'd wait and do a food journal as well once you start. I don't think Jedd had any solids regularly until he was about a year old. Even then, I was putting them in his tube for weight gain.

Mom to Eddie 1/07 and Nicholas 6/08. Eddie allergic and refluxer now on cow's milk!!!! Nicholas also a refluxer on prevacid and breast milk. Mom on elimination diet AGAIN!!
I delayed solids with my first by choice because of allergies and gas/pain. I would give him only a limited amount and cook everything b/c it is easier to digest. I journaled ( very specific, include sleep patters, poops, amounts so forth) everything and would intro new foods very slowly staying away form the more allergic ones, it went well, BUT he is such a picky eater now, still ona puree diet still trouble with his weight, sometimes I wish I would have offered more variety more textures, like if sweet potato give him puree, fries pieces mashed with chunks I think once they are more thatn 1 year they get much much more picky.. I say by choice b/c my second is 8 months and WILL NOT take anything by spoon by his choice I hope this helps. good luck elaine

Maia didn't really eat solids until 13 months. She had pretty severe reflux. Sam is eating solids with gusto at 6 months, and it seems to actually help her reflux. I think it really depends on the baby. You know your child best, and if you think that delaying solids until a year is best then go with your gut.
Check with your
doctor first!
