Sandifers VS Normal Arching
We recently split the 15mg solutab in half and give an AM and PM dose. Not sure how this is working out yet. My son (almost 8 months) has started pulling away from the bottle again. Now, when he pulls away he arches his back (I've seen this before) but he has started to arch his neck back as far as he can. I've also noticed him in this position when he sleeps. He does not do it when he isn't feeding. The problem is that I cannot tell if this is normal or Sandifer's syndrome. I don't like talking to his doctor because they think I am a total nut. They did not believe that he had acid reflux in the first place so they aren't very helpful.

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
The treatment for both is getting the reflux under control. Sandifers is different than a seizure and doesn't cause damage, it's just posturing and arching.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
If your GI won't listen to you fire them and get another one. It's well worth it and we are completely glad we did.

I'd really try to get that dose bumped up. With pain like that it's MHO that the meds need to be upped. You can also ask to add in some thing like Carafate, it's like super mylanta. It's by RX only. It can be tricky to dose without affecting the PPIs though so you have to be careful about the timing. but it can be worth it.

Holy cow!! My baby is doing this exact thing and I thought I was CRAZY thinking she might be having a seizure! I was so worried that people would think I was nuts that I didn't even mention it to my husband when I saw it happen. But after finding your post I showed my husband your video and he said he has seen her do the exact same thing!! We are going to our first Ped GI appointment in a week and I will make sure to bring this up! I'm in tears...thank you thank you thank you for posting. You have brought this mom some much needed relief!

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
Nicholas did the same. Our doctor said it was Sandifer's. It didn't really subside until the reflux was under control, as, it is my understanding that Sandifer's occurs in response to pian. Best of luck.
Check with your
doctor first!
